Millerzconstruction
Idk if you can see how big the gap is but I could fit my fist into the attic. And they didn't use osb either. Sent from my LGAS995 using Tapatalk
DR99
That's one of the most hacky bullshit things I have ever see!! No wonder the siding blew off it had nothing to bite into!!!
99_XC600
Hold on. So there is no sheathing at all on the gables? It's just the rigid foam board?
JimboS1ice
Those type of situations that give contractors a bad name, bunch of guys out there just to scam you and get as much money from you as they can and hack the job up.JimboSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
comp56
problem is not what you find it is what else is wrong after you discover something like this.....
DamianD
Oh my god. That makes me wonder what else they hacked
Millerzconstruction
Yea no osb or ply wood. I would say that I will find a lot more. The couple wants me to build a 24×16 ft deck on the back. With 16×16 covered and screened in. And yes that is why the siding blew off. I put a bunch of screws in the pieces I put back. Maybe they will hold? It was all I could think of at the time. Do you guys have anything that would of been better? Millerzconstruction
Just blue board. And no insulation behind the blue board either. Sent from my LGAS995 using Tapatalk
kruton
That's a shame. What really sucks is that you don't really know what is back there until something like this. Hope you don't find any other surprises like that when you start their porch.Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
Logan
Really sucks that some contractors don't do it right
99_XC600
How did they not notice that was something was wrong. Just on a noise level alone they must be able to hear a cricket farting out in the grass.

Millerzconstruction
Yea there's studs. I put two 2in roofing nails in each stud to help from blowing off. But you don't drive the nails tight when installing vynal siding. So it can move with temperature changes. Millerzconstruction
And I put drywall screws between the studs. Because with gable trusses here the studs are on 2ft centers. I'm sure it's like that all around the whole house. Which blue board has a good r value but it shouldn't be used for sheathing a house. I've seen it on older houses from the 80's before. This house is not even 10 years old yet. Sent from my LGAS995 using Tapatalk
Millerzconstruction
A good place for blue board is when building walls in the basement against the block. And put it between each stud. If more than 2/3 of the wall is covered by dirt you don't need it. Sent from my LGAS995 using Tapatalk
comp56
whoever built the house either wanted to save money or didn't have a clue

DR99
You can tell the building inspector got paid off that day, or it was never inspected. Seriously how much in time and materials did they save? 200/300 bucks if that?
Bigmikez
Really sad that some of these hackjob contractors don't take pride in doin quality work and just wanna rip people off doin half ass jobs.
99_XC600
Lol xc600. the siding had blown off. If it hasn't they wouldn't of never known. I bet the heating bill shows something though. Lol.Sent from my LGAS995 using Tapatalk I can't even imagine the utility bills. I would be even worried about water and moisture getting into the drywall. There has to be mold in the place at this point.
Millerzconstruction
Well blue board is more expensive than osb. But you can cut it and install it much faster than plywood. So the home owner payed more for the bad work than it would have been. And now its going to cost him again to get it fix right. Around here it just matters who you are. With what you can get by with.
