Yeah it was typical for new tool to make a small smell when first used, smells like electrical wires burning, then after awhile that would go away. With the newer brushless tools there is even less new tool break in smell. The model you indicate is a quite older one. Using factory batteries is good, some after market ones maybe an issue. Keep an eye on it, feel the battery and the body after use, make sure it's not excessively hot.
