AJB
As above title, I have both type 1 and type 2 batteries. Both are 4.0 so what's the difference?
JimboS1ice
Version 1 vs version 2, probably just upgraded or change some internals enough to make them call it a type 2 Jimbo Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

When they make a revisions change, there may be a slight difference in internal components. This just lets them know which one it is and what the difference is. More for warranty. WigWagWorkshop
Interesting, I know that with the DeWalt Scroll Saw, Type 1 meant it was made in Canada, and Type 2 was made in China.
JimboS1ice
That would indicate a type change as well even if it's the same as the previous version if ta manufactured in a different part of the world materials could be different suppliers or quality or what not. Partly, yes... On the type 1 which I have, the upper arm drive rod can work loose and begin to rattle inside the arm. I took mine apart and reamed the inside out a bit... On the type 2 they fixed this issue...
Hugh Jass
Anytime they make revisions to parts or components it changes the Type number. Type 1 is first factory shipment, if revisions or improvements are made, it goes to Type 2, and so on.

Cr8ondt
While not exactly pertaining to the question at hand...... Stuart had a good article about DeWalt vented batteries.... interesting that the ones in his photos that were older are type 2 and newer are type 1. http://toolguyd.com/dewalt-20v-max-battery-vented-heatsink-changes/
CrazyAaron
For the 20V batts, I've noticed that type 2 have the fuel gauge built in, whereas type 1 does not.
