Stewart78 Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Hi, was just wondering if anybody knew how come the price of power tools in America are like a 1/3 of the price in the uk. Is it cheaper VAT/TAX in America? #Tiacrew
KnarlyCarl Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Yeah it's a bit of a shock to us when we see the prices so much higher on that side of the pond. I've not looked into why that is, but probably mainly taxes and also a small part to do with currency value? Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 1
Fazzman Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 The all mighty US dollar usually has to do with that, exchange rates and all that jazz. Its another reason why alot of US folks buy stuff from Canada its crazy cheap. 1
comp56 Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Purely economics, lets face it north america is more of a through away world. Quanity is key too....... compitition is most likely a factor too.......probably a zillion places to buy tools and they all compete. Exchange rate do factor but Canadian pricing usually is reflected on exchange but some tools can be bought for less so it is confusing to say the least.... 2
MikeInCtown Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 It is purely government taxes. Camera equipment is the same way. (among everythng else) A friend who lives over there found that for a specific lens he wanted to get that it was cheaper to buy a plane ticket to New York City, buy the lens and then fly back. 1
StrippedScrew Posted April 13, 2016 Report Posted April 13, 2016 Same here in Ireland power tools can be just ridiculous, iv seen tools four times more expensive than the US or Canada. That been said I always buy my tools from the UK. 2

StrippedScrew Posted April 14, 2016 Report Posted April 14, 2016 Not only that but sometimes the store owners jack up the price purely for profit despite already making a profit i.e Milwaukee isnt as big in Ireland as the US as say Dewalt so when a shop gets it in the prices are huge. The 2nd gen Milwaukee impact driver is around €700 in a local place which is $788.
