[M18 2606-22CT driver motor sparks?]

Ahh, is that a common occurrence?

I just got the M18 1/2'' driver set with the 1/4'' impact driver. The model on the 1/2'' driver box says "2606-22CT." 

 

I tried it our briefly and noticed there was a considerable about of sparking/arching behavior going on in the drill. A few times a small spark was emitted. Is this normal? I got the set new from International Tool. Thoughts? 

 

The Impact driver seems to be more "normal:" minimal internal sparking.

I have a Dremel Multi-Max tool that uses triangular sanding pads. Works great but an issue is that the pads are expensive. I figured I could make my own, granted I can find sand paper with a loop/fuzzy backing so it will stick/stay attached to the hook part of the sanding pad.

 

I know there are orbital sanding pads, which are a potential option, but buying sheets of sand paper would be more cost effect as I could get more pads out of the sheets.
