  1. Today I saw Dan & Eric talk about the Oneida Viper Scraper (A scraper with a vacuum attachment. Well I missed the boat on making millions LOL! .... I made this thing a while back when refinishing an antique table. These Bahco Scrapers are THE BOMB! - Anyway, this thing works absolutely fantastic. A crevice tool, some shims and electrical tape. BooYa !!!

Update:  Here is a little video that shows how good it works.

  2. This is awesome news! - I have converted over to Milwaukee last year and could not be happier. I have invested quite a lot in both M12 & M18 tools. - Currently have a Paslode Finish Nailer, Ryobi Brad Nailer & Makita Pin Nailer (All Cordless) - If Milwaukee puts out a good nailer, I will switch. - NER, What part of CT are you in? - i am in CT as well.

  3. Idk how you keep it that clean? I would have saw dust all over everything. No matter how much I cleaned.

Haha! - Dust collection everywhere! -- I make quite the mess, believe me. I just end my shop time a little early and be sure to put tools away and vacuum before leaving the shop. Kinda OCD actually .... got that from my Dad. He was the same way when I was growing up. -- Not a bad habit to have I guess.

  4. Hi Faz,

    Reviving an old thread here...

The 350q with festool plunge accessories seems to be the perfect combination for me as well  (especially since I can have it in a Systainer ;-). The 350q is more than aggressive enough for me, and the vibration "muting" is far more important. I moving from a 1st generation Fein and the difference is amazing! Thank you for the great post.

I would like to use the japanese style precision blades for some of my plunge work. Have you found a source for the longer ones? Understandably, I keep turning up the Supercut mount pattern in the longer blades.

There was a guy I ordered a bunch from, but he no longer is selling them.  You can look at Dewalt DWA4205. It is long enough where the blade is in constant contact with the magnet on the plunge base.

  5. That is awesome how is the Oneida cyclone do you get good results with your table saw and planner

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

DG1127 - I get great results with both! I highly recommend the cyclones. It is astonishing to me that there is practically no sawdust in the main Vacuum.  The filter is like new.

  6. Now that is a cool work area! Where did you get that DeWalt tablesaw? Didn't know they made full size table saws like that. Anyway, what a lucky guy you are with that set up. One of the best I've seen in a while.

RCWARD, It came out around 2002 or thereabouts.  It was Model DW746. It was the first "Hybrid" table saw made. Not a cabinet saw, not a contractors saw.  It did not come that way that is pictured.  I added all Cast Iron wings and the Sliding table. I love this thing.

  7. Yeah, I bought it as soon as one of our members posted it as a deal. I also run two Midis, one is the dedicated power source and DC for my Kapex. The other I use with my TS, routers and sanders. Glad to have another Festool nut on the forum. I'm thinking of starting a support group. You know.....for the inevitable money problems. Quality and Control costs and it's worth it.

LOL! -- Ain't that the truth ..... In this case, you truly do get what you paid for.

  8. Are you friggin' kiddin' me Fazz? ??????! All this remodeling I'm doing and mine STILL LOOKS LIKE A DUNGEON!!!!!!!! Seriously awesome shop! How's that table saw working out for you and better yet how's the air cleaner working out? I've been using mine but because of this next phase I've taking it down for relocation.

ChrisK1970, I just replied to a post talking about the air cleaner and how much I love it.  In my opinion, it is one of the best items one can put in their shops. The table saw is still crankin .... Everytime I see a Saw Stop, my mind starts to wander ... but Old Yeller has been really good to me so I keep her around.

  9. This is one of the best workshops I have ever seen! Mine doesn't even come close to the awesomeness of yours and doing the work I do, my workshop gets black dust everywhere! You have some serious hardcore dust extraction! I wonder what powers all that heavy duty suction? Some people in here say you have built the dream, I tend to agree with that statement. And for the one who said this is heaven, thats not quite accurate. Get a few chicks in there in a bikini, then it be heaven. :P

Alright your now giving me some dust extraction ideas,

Protoolnut, My dust extraction is not as elaborate as one would think.  Each of three walls contains an MDF box which houses a RIGID shop vac. They are each connected to an Oneida Dust Deputy Cyclone. I cannot say enough good things about those cyclones. I also have one dedicated to the table saw. For my miter station, I have a Festool mini. For sanding, routing, track saw, general cleanup, etc., I have the larger Festool CT vac with Oneida's cyclone on top of that. It all works very well. One investment that I am very pleased with is the JDS air cleaner. That thing moves a ton of air. You cannot imagine how much dust it removes from the air.  BTW, I said the same thing about the girls in Bikinis, but my wife wasn't too happy with that idea :)

  10. Festool and Ryobi the green tool brands together at last!! I think you have the full Airstrike nailer lineup!! It's funny Ryobi has the best lineup of cordless finish nailers out of all the tool companies.

Jason, That's right haha! -- How can you not like those nailers?  They perform beautifully. So well in fact, I  never turn on the compressor any longer and let a friend borrow my pneumatic nailers.

  11. Faz, that's one the best looking shops I've seen. The lighting is abundant, the floor is immaculate, the tools are amazing (I'm looking at all those Festool boxes). I wouldn't want to leave that slice of heaven that you call a cave. Awesome stuff

Man, all I can say is ..... DO NOT BUY FESTOOL .... Unless you can prepare yourself to be consumed and addicted to that brand.  When my Dewalt chop saw died, I was looking around for a sliding Miter Saw, but was concerned at how much depth they required. I then came across the Kapex.  INSTANT love at first use! -- Needless to say, I am now a fan.

  12. OK, that has to be one of the best workshops I seen in a very long time.  Where did you score that DeWalt table saw?

    -Steven

Steven, I was a Dewalt junkie back in the day .... My shop was nothing but Yellow and Black LOL!  That being said, When they came out with a table saw, It just seemed like the right thing to do.  I had a Craftsman before that. I have to say, this saw has been very good over the years. I think what sold me on it (besides the color :)), was the sliding table. Really nice and at the time ... reasonably priced.

  13. Thanks All!  -- Much appreciate the comments.  I do not do this professionally. I'm just a guy who loves to play with his wood :). It has been a passion for me ever since I was a small child.  I would stand on a little stool driving nails in a board at my dad's workshop whenever he was in his shop. -- He always taught me to clean up before hitting the lights and calling it a day ... I kinda went overboard LOL!  -- Now, my Dad (Who is 89 God Bless Him) looks forward to spending time in my shop whenever he can.

  14. Welcome!

Did you have to shim it to fit flush to the blade mount? I'm seeing prices of white and black between the tool and the festool mount piece in the third pic, those are what I'm rereferring to. If they are shims, we're they supplied with the mount or did you supply them

Looks like you need the long blades to use with the plunge base

Very cool mod, anyone know if it will work with the fein 250??

John, Yes. I made the shim. it came out to be 13/64 thick. I added the white shim to make it exact. -- I bought longer screws 10.6mm at Home Depot and shaved the head down flush with the base plate. -- The only other mod is you have to shorten the base plate (look at the second pic) below the screw holes. Otherwise, it will not fit flush. The casing of the fein gets in the way. -- Your right.  Long blades for the plunge base.

  15. With very little effort, I was able to fit a Festool Plunge Base on my Fein 350Q. -- Long story short; I bought the Festool OS 400 because of the plunge base and, well, it's a Festool ... It's got to be Great! -- Well,  It was very noisy and the blades kept coming loose. The vibration was quite evident as well. -- I obviously got a defective unit; as was verified by the store where I bought it. I returned it and went with the Multimaster 350. I Absolutely love it.  Very little vibration, not too noisy, etc. -- The one thing I did miss was that plunge base. -- Since the Festool was really a Fein Supercut, I decided to pick up a plunge base from Festool.  It also comes with a really nice depth stop. Much better than the one you can get from Fein. after a few modifications, here are the results.
