    Well, I just received it in the mail (Dewalt DWP611PK) and it is a fantastic little machine. Love the plunge base from the get-go (some have complained about the release lever) I find it to be smooth and efficiently designed.

     

    The measurement dial will take some time getting used to, and of course the LED lights with acrylic base is what really makes this compact router shine.

     

    Heck, even the small bag they include isn't have bad (all my bags and cases are more for storing when not in use rather than transportation methods.)

     

    Might have a new favorite tool competing with my Fein Multimaster.

  2. Dremel Saw-max vs Jigsaw

    I've owned the Saw-max now for over a year without using it once... Always thought it was better intended for cutting pipes and rough repair work, but since I've been doing research on the best way to do straight cutting for finished work, seems that there is much potential for it (as long as the wood is 3/4" or less.

    Having said that, is there room for a Jigsaw now that the Dremel Saw-Max seems to work as a miniature circular saw?

    I won't be doing anything upside down and rarely intricate cuts. Mostly straight lines, possibly curves.

    Tight spaced repair work I'll leave to my Fein oscillating.

    I just feel I would get a better handle and have more control with a barrel grip... But at $50 more I think I could learn how to use a proper top handle unit.

    Well I checked both out tonight and came back with liking the Bosch more. Seems like I can actually dial it in better (with the measurements on the barrel.Typical Bosch quality with simple and clean lines. Also, plastic carrying case.

    Man these things are small. Can I still do glue joints and tongue and groove? How thick a piece of wood can I go

    Always wanted a router for around the house use and it seems that a compact router is the way to go (routing out hinges, casual woodwork, etc.)

     

    Looking at the Dewalt DWP611

     

    Question: How does it compare to the Bosch Colt? (Bosch fan here, but it seems the Dewalt beats them with this model.)

     

    Question: How useful is a plunge base for a compact router such as this? What practicle applications would it be needed?

  13. Barrel Grip vs Top Handle Jigsaw

    I am considering owning a Jigsaw for around the house, weekend warrior type work (no woodworking, yet) and want a good Jigsaw that will not only last but be smooth to operate (easy to handle after practice).

     

     

    Looking at either the Bosch JS470EB (7amp) or the Bosch JS365 (6amp). The JS470EB is a barrel grip while the JS365 is a top handle model.

     

     

    I believe I would enjoy using the barrel grip better (no stores near by to tell) due to handling thanks to lower center of gravity and natural placement of hand. Regardless, the only thing stopping me is a $50 price difference between the two.

     

    Is it justifiable as my first Jigsaw for the difference in price?

    Between a barrel-grip 7amp and a top-handle 6amp for the casual, weekend warrior type user.... what would be the better "bang for your buck" of a price difference of $50?
