The gearbox/clutch is broken. My DDF482 (wich is the same drill without hammer function) had the same problems. I had it fixed once, and when it broke down again I bought a DDF484 which has metal gears, DDF482 has plastic gears.
I opted for the DHP482 because a number of sources stated: "All metal gear construction". Unless these vary by region / country of manufacture?
Either way, the rattle noise and other matters make me nervous. The thing is brand new.

Hi,
Late November I purchased the DLX2131SY Kit, and noticed the following with the Drill:
- Noticeable axial play within the shaft / gearbox - this makes neat drilling somewhat challenging; The chuck runs true however.
- Rattling noise when spindle is slowing down / braking - only in Hi gear
- Gets quite warm under load (normal for a brushed unit I guess?)
(My AEG BSB 18ST doesn't have these "features", or they're nowhere near as pronounced - even nearing its retirement!)
Took the DHP482 back to the retailer - they idled and smelt it (?), said it's "normal". Raised it with Makita - said to take it to their repair centre.
Just want to figure out if I got a lemon or if the above is acceptable?
Cheers
BL1815 - DIY upgrade to 3Ah in the same five-cell housing

In Australia, we don't get the 2Ah entry levels batts for the LXT platform - we get 1.5Ah instead.
I'm hoping to upgrade BL1815 batts with INR 30Q 3000mAh 15Amp Hi-Drain; There's nothing wrong with the batts in the BL1815's I have - any issues replacing healthy cells with higher-amperage cells?
Many thanks
