Steve27
Hello, I'm having an issue with putting a new assembly rod locking mechanism on my used DeWalt 734 planer. The assembly rod locking mechanism prevents the cutter heads from moving via vibration/cutting. It helps prevent snipe. Anyway, I have the correct part number and part. The old part was beat up and not useful for a template on how to install the new part. The main issue is the when the part is laid flat, it is too long to easily install. If I screw the part via the 4 clips into the 4 pole areas, the part pushes up into an inverted V position. That issue makes it so high, that I can't put the cover back on. And the knob the controls the depth of the cut, doesn't fit appropriately. If I try to push down on the locking mechanism, I will end up damaging 4 the clips that are screwed into the 4 posts. The assembly rod locking mechanism does have springs, so I am assuming the springs need to be compressed before the install. But I don't have a clue how to do that. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Steve. PS Please see the attached pictures. Edited June 12 by Steve27 Add picture examples
