I have to agree with Sparky, if you think Kleins dull too fast then I'm not sure what will make you happy. I can usually get years out of a pair or Klein cutters. Most guys I know buy them as the "GOOD' ones.  I recently bought a pair of Knipex, but have not had them long enough to comment.

I agree, I also don't find the cutting edge on knipex lineman pliers to last any longer. Quite the opposite in my experience.

I only use 2 amp red lithium batteries on my impacts to save weight. I have 4, 5 amp but I use them for circular saw, drills, sawzall etc.

I only had one instance where the power cut out but like I said, it was a large bolt.

What size screws are you driving when it happens?

My 2757 has more power, but I rarely use it since buying the Surge.

Im my work I'm mainly driving 1 3/4 to 3 in drywall screws.

Not too sure what it was. Probably a long #10 into a 4x4. Was playing around with it when I got it.

Although yesterday I tried it with a 3/8 lag into a lead concrete sleeve. That was a no go. Power cut out right away. Wasn't expecting to be up to the task. The first gen fuel didn't skip a beat. I'm just not a fan of how it just cuts off power instead of limiting current. In more realistic usage where it would work just slowly it'll cut out.

I do love how it works with smaller fasteners and doesn't trash bits. Just thrown off by the torque limit. If it were just underpowered that would be one thing but this will just stop doing the job. If I didn't know and didn't have my impact driver with me I would be pissed.

It is great for the vast majority of what I do. Just has one large downfall.

  3. Only a few people I let borrow tools . Usually they get returned to me dirty it makes me not want to lend but finally I had enough so I told him don't get it so fucking dirty , respect other peoples things. I would have to be with comp I have put a shit load of work into getting tools and fixing them so I don't lend out very often .

All of my tools are dirty. I don't have a homeowner collection lol

Honestly, most of my tools I use regularly and can't afford to let people use.

  4. All good. Do I think they are junk tools? Not a chance. Do I mind comparing them to other tools? No.

My 2704 has some distinct advantages over my 996. It is smaller and lighter, has a separate selector collar for hammer, drill, and drive. It has a side handle that's worth a damn. It has a gear selector that works consistently. The 996 however has a superior chuck, runs cooler, to my mind, a much better light, and 3 speeds.

I suppose that's the nice way of reviewing something quickly without seeming like I'm hating on it. The other way to read that is my M18 Fuel chuck is a jacobs that isn't so great, it runs hot enough to fry an egg and the light is worthless. The 996 gearbox is finnicky and people hate it, its side handle is a plastic piece of trash, switching from drill to a low clutch setting is inconvenient and the thing weighs as much as a cinder block [emoji23].

Still love both drills but I'd rather guys don't have to read between the lines so they can feel rosy about their favourites [emoji38]

What do people dislike about the 996 gearbox? I loved the gearbox on the 995. 1250rpm was the perfect ratio of speed and torque for most of my needs
  5. Milwaukee will finally update their m18 jigsaw and add a 18Ah battery.

    Dewalt Ultra Flexvolt, 120V battery line. Dewalt will now have 8v, 12V, 18v, 20v, 40v, 60v, 120v battery platforms.

You forgot about their 24 and 36v platforms ;)
  6. Quite frankly Bluetooth control has some serious potential. If I could get accurate torque control on an impact driver it would be great. When doing a panel swap it would be great to look at the torque settings and set it up quickly and go to town. As of now I do everything by hand since I don't trust any power tools to be accurate enough. There is no way for me to know if the screw is binding up or if the wire is actually snug on a neutral bar with an impact driver. I won't take the chance.

I can see why Milwaukee didn't include any actual specs in their current torque settings. They use current draw to control torque. Obviously it varies wildly as the battery dips in voltage. It's quite noticeable in practice. It's not remotely accurate enough to post an actual measurement.

The torque cutoff is nice on the driver. But nothing that other manufacturers don't do without Bluetooth control and imo is less of an issue with a three speed transmission.

  7. I have yet to be impressed with a Milwaukee accessory. Their Sawzall blades suck, very surprising since they own the name and all. Hole saws are mediocre. And driver bits are plain awful.

Lennox blows them away on the sawblade front. Their augers rock too. Ideal makes a decent 2 blade auger as well.

Just my opinion but I haven't given them a chance in that department in quite a while. This is also coming from a Milwaukee fan

  8. Any my opinion is still that it's expensive for the a single speed drill that's mainly intended for 7/8" and 1" ship augur bits. Not only that but I've read far too many reviews mentioning it jamming up doing it's "intended purpose".

Definitely does and way too easily. My boss has one. I'm not a fan. The high torque impact does a much better job with auger bits.

  9. Just had this happen with my one key drill. Bluetooth light would go on and all other controls were unresponsive. I decided to spin the fan a bit with a screwdriver and it started working again.

My m12 fuel impact has always had a similar issue but just changing speeds would make it work again. This was very different. Need to get the impact repaired. Does that all of the time now sadly. It's also seen the hell of a lot more use so I'm not as bothered by that one.
