Get brad point bits for smaller sizes and forstner bits for larger sizes, these should never be used in metal though so keep your ryobi twist bits for that.

This advice applies if your looking for great precision, not great speed. Depends what you want to do with them...

  2. A few good points being made here already:

    • A spade bit doesn't clear chips, so isn't good for deep holes, a ship auger would be better
    • That's a big, hard hole for a low-end drill - probably borrow an electric
    • Definitely stick to first speed
    • DO NOT predrill a hole any bigger than about 4mm when trying to use a spade bit, because it's incredibly hard to control them if the front spike isn't in the timber. Best not to bother...

Great video Dwain! Dewalt is killing it lately and making my Mikwaukee gear look second rate lol. Despite that, I think at this point I solely blame your praise and enthusiasm for them in OTT reviews for actually making me want to buy them.

Haha, maybe I should be looking for a job in sales!

Appreciate all the love guys. It's a killer tool.

NOW - WHO CAN PREDICT THE SCORES (out of 25) FOR THE IMPACT DRIVER COMPARISON????

    Bosch - ? / 25

    Dewalt - ? / 25

    Hitachi - ? / 25

    Makita - ? / 25

    Metabo - ? / 25

    Milwaukee - ? / 25

  4. I sort of agree Bremon. I don't think the Flex-volt batteries make much sense on drills/drivers. The 5.0Ah batteries are ample and should still be purchased.

However, I don't think its fair to say that they have a 'sub-par' form factor. Compared to who? As far as I understand, most of the 6.0Ah batteries out there have taken a serious compromise in output to reach the next big number (6Ah). I don't want to be buying 6Ah batts and getting less performance than 5Ah packs!

  5. I am seriously skeptical of that claim re: runtime. The motors look identical to me, though perhaps the included batteries in the kits are different.

How often do you change your blade? I hardly ever change mine, and have a backup from when i saw a good deal on a 6.5" anyway. Amazon is your friend :)

  6. And even then, you can't cut stacks of plywood indefinitely on 18V saws anyway, because the battery heats too much.

I would say that most people (not chippes) will hardly pick up a corded saw again after getting a FUEL circ or recip. And just keep an eye out for a super cheap corded unit from a garage sale / craigslist if you want a backup.

I've heard here that the regular M18 recip isn't that good, but never used it myself.

  7. The crazy numbers I see on the US electric tools/appliances are just bewildering. Exaggeration happens all over the place.

Take these hifi stereo systems for example. They have maths to back up that 2450W rating, it's just REALLY bad math. I guarantee the amp has an input voltage around 400-500W https://www.jbhifi.com.au/tv-home-entertainment/home-theatre/sony/sony-ht-m77-7-2-channel-muteki-home-theatre-system/554323/

I dislike that a lot. I dislike the US appliance nonsense ampere claims. I dislike claiming 20V instead of 18V a little.

In Australia Dewalt were not allowed to call their gear 20V. I wish there were more regulations like this to prevent consumers from being misled.

Only thing I don't love about it is the design is silly for checking the battery level, dumb design, and the depth adjustment isn't intuitive at all. Pretty minor gripes.

Yes, and this is a problem for quite a few tools in many different brands. It's a little unavoidable if you put the gauge on the back of the battery. Milwaukee's battery gauge design is better in this sense.

Regarding depth adjustment, I don't think it's un-intuitive I just think it could be highlighted and denoted better.
