that's pretty exciting!

yeah the rafter hook is good for sure. The new Makita BL recip has a very similar one, and I think the others will follow suit.

I know the NPS in happening end of August over here in Aus, so I assume the US NPS must be quite soon.

Didn't even Makita even had that compact wrench.
Beat kornomaniac to it! Wonder if it's available in the states...

Makita is also lacking in compact impact wrenches.
This is nearly the match of the Gen 2 FUEL on paper... http://www.makita.com.au/products/lithium/lithium-ion-skins/18-volt/dtw281z-18v-mobile-brushless-impact-wrench

Dwain, any chance you're going to make a head to head?
Sorry no. As I only got to borrow the Makita recip saw, a head-to-head looks unlikely...

For those wondering, that's equivalent to an 83Ah 18V battery in gas. It would cost about 38c in electricity to recharge (ignoring charging inefficiencies).
1500W output is impressive! Can run some decent tools on that!

I've never caught myself on fire with a grinder though, just other things.
Lol jeff!

Thanks Bremon. Yeah I love grinders, but they deserve a LOT of respect. The big powerful electric units in particular are just gunning to maim you.
The bandsaw is much safer and nicer if you have use for one.

Hey Knarly,
We don't have lapel mics (nor can my camera support multiple mics I think). But I do have a shotgun mic, and I've been playing around with the idea of having that mounted right above us. I'll give it a shot I reckon
I've not heard anything bad about Milwaukee chucks. I've experienced some slippage with Dewalt chucks, but not a really big problem,,,

nah haven't played with the Dewalt. I'd say a comparison is not likely anytime soon....

But that's not a fair comparison:
1. Can you buy four trade-quality high-powered 9" grinders? More like 2, or 3 when comparing to a kit
2. This is cordless, your grinders aren't. No lead!
3. This is faster, quieter and can't catch you on fire.

thanks korno. mmm, that look's sexy.

I think this is a grinder killer ...

Thanks Jimbo! It's going to be a fun, but long project...

thanks korno! I can only find a FULL SIZE BL drill from Metabo, not a compact model. Do you have a link or model or pic? Cheers.

I know lots of people here love comparisons, and oztooltalk have some big one's coming up. We're comparing the COMPACT (BL) DRILLS and also BL IMPACT DRIVERS, testing June 10-11 and videos to be released a few weeks later. So for those who love this sort of thing, if you have any feedback about what you'd like to see, or not see, now's your chance to have input!
My current plans are as follows:
18V COMPACT HAMMER DRILLS:
MODELS: Bosch BL DDS183, Dewalt BL DCD796, Makita BL DHP480, Milwaukee BL 2702-20, Metabo BS18 Quick (NOT BL or Hammer).
TESTS: Runtime in 35mm pine with 17mm augers (2Ah batts) | Power in 1st & 2nd speed by trying increasing sizes of auger bits (5ah and 2Ah) | 6mm concrete drilling | 3mm and 8mm steel drilling | Driving bugel batten screws
OTHER: Weight, comfort, heat?, chuck grip and accuracy, price, warranty, RPM/BPM
18V IMPACT DRIVERS
MODELS: Bosch BL IDH182, Dewalt BL DCF887, Makita BL DTD148, Milwaukee BL 2753, Hitachi BL WH18DDL (IP56), Metabo SSD 18 LTX (not BL)
TESTS: Runtime in 125mm bugel batten screws | Power in driving coach screws | Drilling with auger bits? | Fine driving of small screws.
OTHER: Speed setting usage, weight, comfort, heat?, bit-holder usage, price, warranty, RPM/IPM
Thoughts???
What sort of video length would you want to see? Anything you disliked or loved about our planer comparison or previous hammer drill comparison?

I feel exactly the same guys. You're spoilt for options over there in the US. I spose the grass is always greener though ...

no chance they'll make all their current 20V/18V XR users feel like they've been left out by introducing an incompatible 21.6V tool, there'd be outrage.
