^^ this is the biggest mistake (along with the previous 3ah battery failures) made by Makita in recent times.
I helped a mate get rid of all the Makita tools that were not compatible with newer HC batteries (which we were the weaker offerings anyway). He's kept the best Makita tools, and supplemented with Milwaukee FUEL tools (grinder, circ and recip). Best of both worlds.

yeah the 10.8V looks close to M12 brushed, and the 18V looks close to M18 brushed.
I'll consider taking them apart, we've done it before...

yeah they are obviously not as good as a rotary (or full size hammer drill), but also, they are a great drill at a great price. I can't imagine prolonged hammer drilling being good for them. I want it to stay a pristine drill driver...

does anyone really ever use the hammer function on a compact drill? I don't usually recommend much hammer use for one ....

the regular brushed kit is such good value. my FUEL drill hardly gets touched because the compact brushed drill is much lighter and has all the power needed for 99% of jobs. the impact is a good tool as well.
unless you plan on drilling holes over an inch big all day long, be happy with the great tools you have and don't regret them one bit!

Hi Knarly Carl. We used 4ah and 5ah batteries. No I don't think the 9Ah will help because the motor was noticeably working very hard already.

i just expect that if a manufacturer rates to 2mm, that it can do 2mm. Especially given that Milwaukee are usually very powerful tools, I also expected it to at least match the competition (which can go much harder/faster).
Power is VERY important, so I'm dissapointed. BUT in every other way, it's awesome. So it's 'a little dissapointing'.

2mm is fairly hard for a cordless I think. The bosch is only rated at 1.6mm, but it can do 45mm LVLs at 1.6mm easily.

ahh! I thought it must have been because one or two EU countries are on 110V.
That's really annoying, that your home tools won't work on the jobsite and vice-versa...
