  1. For me it's not about theft but me keeping track of them. There are a LOT of millwaukee m18 batteries around work at this point. And I have a lot of casual labour in who also have them. I would just love it if an identity system was implemented by the manufacturer
  2. I wish that all cordless tools had a recessed band around them so you could wrap a nice piece of electrical tape around them to write your name on. Labeling your tools. that is the future
  3. I work in theatre so the majority of my router work is flushing 3/4" plywood tops onto riser sides or flushing up to templates. I also make a lot of bullnose out of pine 1x3. I've had a 3.25 hp makita 3612c plunge router forever. (I have no idea when it was bought. 15 years ago? probably longer. but the controls are getting stiffer and stiffer so we're gonna spring for a new on for the shop. any suggestions? As much as I hate the bulk, I think I should stick with the higher hp router
  4. novelty aside....it's badass. For the bush carpenter who paints in broad strokes....
  5. Guess what? we took it back to the service shop and they gave us a new one. When it got back to the shop I noticed that it only said XC on the battery....not 4.0. But the box said 4.0 so I figured they must have changed the label on the actual battery because 4.0 is the new norm. Anyway, I looked at the bottom and the details there showed that it was definitely not a 4.0
  6. My head carpenter used his milwaukee 18V drill/driver for about 12 years before the batteries finally died out on him. Pretty heavy use, too.
  7. won't even take a charge. Apparently, it's going to take 4-6 weeks for the store to get a replacement... I might just drive to the milwaukee store
  8. luckily, I build scenery for theatre so I never use anything pressure treated. 90% of what goes through my saw is pine or 3/4 ply
  9. I have the worlds driest shop. Wetness really isn't a factor. Dry skin is.
  10. Charge them for the cartridge? I like that! "Wait, I almost cut my finger off and you're charging me $80? "No. You get to keep your finger and it only costs $80"
  11. So my shop is part of a university and I have a beautifully heavy table saw from 1968. It's either a rockwell or a delta. I love it. However the powers that be hate the fact that there isn't a guard for it. So I have told them that they have to buy me a new saw. Possibly the sawstop. I'm a big believer that there's a difference between accident prevention and injury prevention. But it looks like the sawstop doesn't prevent accidents better than anything other nice saw. The concern of course, is whether or not it gives you a false sense of security. Mind you, I have never met a carpenter who gambles when it comes to a table saw. Anyway, My main concerns for a saw are dust collection, an unobtrusive guard and a riving blade, so I would be happy with a nice general. Is the sawstop as good a saw as a general? do they misfire? Does humidity affect the wood?
  12. This is almost perfect for me. I have a big shop with lots of tools but I like to keep my personal hand tools/drills in one place. I currently use a dewalt but this looks a bit more organized for me. If I could keep the drill, impact, and circ saw in there, PLUS some hand tools, it would be one stop shopping for me However I REALLY want one of these boxes to have a built in power bar
  13. Several of the guys I work with have that and it hasn't exactly stood the test of time. I have the fuel drill/driver and brushes aside, they are on completely different levels.
  14. I had a drill that was absolute garbage. Historically, they, like black and decker had a great reputation. But they've been riding that rep for a long time. At this point, they aren't really contenders. However, I'm speaking exclusively about power tools
  15. Okay...my next criticism. It's WAY too easy to turn on. I have accidentally fired it up three times during transportation this week. That being said, the bottle opener came in very handy Friday afternoon at the end of a long week
  16. BTW, after a week of using this thing, I gotta say that the sound is fantastic. I'm no longer using my shop sound system
  17. I only know about Milwaukee. There are a lot of Milwaukee drill/drivers around my work but Mine is the only brushless. On top of it out performing the others, the QC is way better. I've seen the other Milwaukee drills burn out after a year. It almosts feels as if they didn't build them that well because the next generation was just about to hit. But that's the conspiracy theorist in me
  18. They really did miss the boat here regarding the 12v batteries. The m12 line is getting more popular (i'm knowing more and more dudes sticking with 12. It doesn't have the stigma it once did) and they basically limited themselves in sales here.
  19. I know it sounds dumb but I wish there was a headphone output. The receiver is much better than the one in my shop and I'd love to send the sound to all my other speakers, even if I send it though my amp
  20. I promised myself that I wouldn't get it until I sold my guitar amp. Anyway the other night I finally sold it. I was telling the wife that I was heading in to pick it up in the morning. That's when she pulled it out of the closet. Apparently she got it for my upcoming birthday. Anyway, nice radio. Not as big, heavy or as loud as I had hoped. But sound quality is amazing. I got exactly 50 feet away before the Bluetooth started clipping but everything worked great. And it came with a free battery!
  21. Oddly enough, I did find it on amazon. but after I ordered it, they e-mailed me and said their product had defects
  22. I have to lay out a lot of custom shapes out on 3/4" ply. So naturally, I like a nice protractor. Does anyone know where I can get a big one? Like, 20" in diameter? http://artec-educational.shptron.com/p/large-plastic-protractor-type-a I'm looking for something like this, but this company won't deliver to Canada. Suggestions?
  23. It isn't slow sales. It's promo. It was just released in the last couple of days. That place is great. They use any excuse to throw in an extra battery. And whenever the company reps are there they throw an event with lots of bundle deals
  24. He gang, this place has to be one of the best shops in Canada. It's in north Toronto and I wouldn't buy my power tools anywhere else. Many of the tools I have bought have been like, 50 bucks cheaper than home depot. Anyway, they now have the new Milwaukee job site radio and they're throwing in a free battery http://www.ihlcanada.com/RADIO279220.html
