  1. I'm just now realizing how I have like, NO good pictures of anything
  2. Hey guys, I'm new to the forum but this is what I do for a living. I get to build cool stuff but I don't know the first thing about residential building.
  3. Hey guys, I have an early 2000's 12" dewalt sliding compound mitre saw. It's the one that has the rails stacked vertically, not side by side. Anyway, I've never been satisfied with its cut. The blade seems to drift a bit and you really notice it on angles. Although I realize that the configuration of the rails is a bit of the problem, do you guys think that the 12" blade has more flex in it? Would a 10" be a better option?
  4. I'll be honest. I work I theatre and since it's such a fringe industry, if we didn't have any government regulation, we wouldn't have a leg to stand on. ANY safety is welcome. I can't believe the stuff I did when I was young.... 30 feet in the air... Alone... At 4am
  5. Hey Guys, Just to introduce myself. I'm from Toronto, Ontario and I work in theatre. I've been building sets for over 15 years and currently I work in Opera. I always feel like we're a bit of the "bastard child" of trades since our whole methodology goes against everything involved in building a house or a rocking chair. Anyway, I've been reading the tool reviews for a long while but recently decided to chime in on the forums! Thanks for a great site.
  6. I know a lot of guys who use ryobi because they don't get stolen on the job site. And my boss always buys them for our shop because they're inexpensive. That being said, I won't allow him do buy any more. All of our ni-cad batteries are useless and although the lithium batteries will probably last, the drills themselves are not a joy to use. We've also burned through a few drills on light use Some of the peripherals are okay. I liked the radio but it did cack out in less than a year. I'd say that the best peripheral is the palm router. Not too many cordless ones around.
  7. Thanks. I guess I'm asking if this promotion is the same in the Canada as it is in the states
  8. Does it have to be participating dealers? I'm in Canada and there's only two dealers I know of who seem to be offering it. I also only see the deal available for 18, not 14.4 I'd Love to trade my Dewalt 14.4 in towards a Milwaukee brushless circ saw
  9. I spent some time with an 18v Makita impact driver a few days ago. It was the white one. Although it felt light grade, it didn't feel cheap. In fact it was a total pleasure to use. Not nearly as hefty as my 18v fuel.
  10. I have both the fuel drill/driver and the impact driver. I love them both. Especially for quality. A few of my Carpenters have the "pre-brushless" Millwaukee drills and they are pretty poorly made. After a year, they have really shown their ware. One of them is even done (he took it in for repair) But the fuel line seems to be back to great form! I'm dying to get the fuel circ. saw!
  11. My buddies and I had a "screw off" a couple of years ago. The drills were all very different but the results were interesting. We were putting masonite flooring into a theatre. 1/4" masonite with two layers of 3/4" of ply underneath. The rules were that you had to keep it on high until it wouldn't put any more 1 1/2" screws in. And then you switched to low gear to see how many more you could get in. The results: Makita 14.4: 203 screws Ryobi 18: 207 screws Hitachi 10.8: 198 Dewalt 14.4: 555! (my drill. I gloated about this for so long that my wife eventually made me a t-shirt. I have since switched to a m18 fuel)
  12. I'd like to leave a cordless drill at my cottage through the winter. I tried it in the past with ni-cads and in the spring, the couldn't keep a charge. (that's the great thing about ryobi. You don't care about them) Would li-ion batteries fare the same?
  13. Does this mean that the radio doesn't get very good reception? My shop is in the lower level of a university at the Centre of a big city and I mostly listen to fm radio
  14. if I remember, I will time my battery on Monday to see how long I get.
  15. I think I bought mine as a bare tool from amazon. But only because home depot was sold out. And it was there as a bare tool as well. And the other cool thing about it is that it accepts the old school batteries as well
  16. I hadn't even thought about this as a patent issue. When I talked to a Milwaukee rep they said that it was designed for great sound and if it was a charger there would be a sacrifice in audio quality. I'm not an audio guy so I can't really comment. He also said that my complaint is a common one so chances are the next gen would be a charger
  17. it isn't great for a big clean up. But I keep it on my bench to keep the saw dust at bay while I work. The plastic on the bottom is really nice for sliding all over the bench. And it's also great for cleaning crevices on tools and stuff
  18. The radio they have is quite nice, but I'd prefer one that is also a charger
  19. It's darn near perfect. The only thing that would improve it is an extension wand
