  1. Awesome! Project threads make me happy, lol.

Sounds like an awesome project. He'll remember working on his kitchen with his Dad long after you've forgotten.

    Good luck!

Just got home a little while ago we had a good day and I know he will remember. He called me a slave driver, and I told him that you union guys take too many brakes. But he did feed me.

Looks like he has a well rounded set of the latest from DeWalt! Nice Tools!

He does have some nice tools but they are mine. I just like using my own. Therefore, if something breaks I can only blame myself.

Looking forward to hearing about the project! Wow 6 inches. I had to level my floor because it sloped 1 inch. Nice set of tools. Like those dewalt tough boxes.

Thanks Harold. I really like the tough boxes I used to have job boxes. It is a lot easier for me to move these around. It sucks getting old.

  2. My oldest son bought his 1st house about 3 years. Like any 80 year old homes in need work. For the most part he has done a good job at fixing the place up and he is just about done except the kitchen. So tomorrow bright, and early we will start to gut the old one out. OI know that we have a floor issue a 6in drop from the door opening to the far corner and who knows what we will find in the walls. So here is the first pic of the truck getting loaded up. I will post more as we go but I think about taking the picture when I done.

  3. Very nice work Harold. There is nothing wrong with wanting to save some cash. It is the only way to learn. It may not be perfect but if it is something you can live with that is that matters. Look at the skill and the experience you have gain

  4. Welcome Regopit! Just do decks, finished basements, and kitchens. Those sounds like they can be big jobs.

Thanks Harold maybe I should have said the scope of the jobs. At one time I had 8 to 10 guys working of jobs additions whole house renos and so on. I would like to say that I made a ton of cash but when you have 4 kids and 3 are in college it seem like it was going out faster than I could make it.

Welcome.  That's cool you get to cherry pick the projects.  I love doing decks and basements, but don't get many opportunities.

Thanks Eric.  it is nice that I'm able to do it and believe me I'm very grateful that I can.

Also thanks, ResSionnach and Chase for the warn welcome

  5. Where are my manors? All I can say is mama tried. Let me introduce myself. My friends call me Del and I am 56 with a wife and 4 kids. I worked for the local utility for 35 years. When they tried to wrangler me into an office all day I decided it was time to go.  Over those 35 years, I was lucky enough to work 3-11 or 4-12 shifts, which let me work alongside my dad and uncles in their home improvement business. At 30 and after my dad passed and my uncles retired, I took it over and scaled back on the size of jobs that I do. Now I just do decks, finished basements, and kitchens.

  6. Thanks everyone one for your thoughts and opinions. As I sit here and type this, my wife is reading this over my shoulder mumbling

You of all people worrying, about spending an extra 100 bucks on tools. Are you feeling ok? Are sure you are not sick. Sick in the head maybe?

Then she walked away. I guess there only one thing left to do. It is FUEL all the way

  7. @ regopit, there is no separate fuel line and 18v line, they are Both m18 18v. If you want Milwaukee's best, then go straight for the m18 fuel drill and impact.

I know that the only differences is that the fuel line is brushless so I guess my question is the brushless motor worth the extra $100.00 in the drill driver and impact driver?

  8. He was a standup guy not the smartest but a good guy and he replaced the charger. He was one of best helpers that I have ever had. I think after his little fiasco, he learned the value of buying quality tools. He was always watching and listening to everything I said. He would ask me if I was working around my house and if I was, he would help me free if I would teach him something and feed him. Good god could he eat. I spent many Saturdays showing him how to lay out stairs rafters and whatever he wanted to learn. Now 10 years later he is out on his own and doing well. Some days I'm his helper now and he pays well too.

  9. Let me start with saying that I live about 15 minutes away from the DeWalt offices in Towson Md. At one time, they had an outlet and repair center located there and I bought a load of tools from there back in the day. I would pick up recondition 18v drills with 2 battery’s and charger for $50.00. That’s was some time ago and now I want to start replacing my cordless tools. Do I really need new tools?  No, am I scaling back on the size jobs I take on?  Yes, would I like some new tools YES!

From the reviews, form TIA and others I’m really starting to like the Milwaukee line up. I guess my biggest question is it worth going right into the FUEL line or the standard 18V.I know that if I go for the sawzalls and circular saw I will go for the fuel but for the drill driver and impact is it worth going to the fuel line?

  10. I have never used aftermarket batteries in my tools. I had a guy asked to use my Pasload charger because it was broke and he had and aftermarket battery and  I did not give it much thought and gave it to him. At the end of the day when he gave it back and told me that this was the second time that he tried to charge this battery and it is the second time the charger died. I looked at his and said what the F is wrong with you, did you ever think it could be the cheap ass aftermarket battery you are using, Now go buy me and yourself a new charger and a battery.
