  1. If/when my Kapex dies again I am looking hard at the new Makita. Seems like a nice saw and is getting decent feedback so far. Also saw Hitachi has a new rail forward 10" coming out if you want to save some coin.

  2. Do NOT get any oil on The driver pin or inside the gun tip!! The pin works off of friction and the fly wheel inside...take it from a guy who ignored the do not oil label...lol.

You can take the magazine holder off easy enough with the supplied allen wrench and clean with a rag and compressed air. The very lightly oil the spring in the magazine.

Framer was also right that a broken or weak return spring can keep the driver pin from fully retracting and then the nails won't feed properly. That is a $35 part on Amazon and takes less than 5 minutes to replace.

  3. I am a little ticked!! It seems they saw how many comments were made all over different forums and then changed the design. It is definitely a different clamshell to make room for the rafters hook. I really hope they offer early adopters the option to exchange.

  4. The Bosch carbide blades are AWESOME! Since getting the Dewalt 20v OMT I haven't been able to use the Bosch ones. I will have to check out the Dremel ones. I did get some from EBay that fit my Dewalt and they are pretty darn close to the Bosch ones.

  5. I should preface that in colder climates I don't feel fiber cement is a good fit. It expands and contracts way more than they say it does. I am also a little biased against it because of all the issues Certainteed had with theirs.

I don't have a magic product to use as an alternative. Royal Building Products has nice high end siding I would like to try. May get to next year.

Lots of guys like L.P. Smartside. I haven't warmed up to it yet...

  6. We have cut a ton of fiber cement with our old Dewalt 12" miter saw. We don't use fiber cement any more because it is a crap product but the saw is still in service as our framing miter saw.

Get the right blade, use a dust extractor, and keep the saw blown off regularly.

Or better yet buy a cheap HF saw for the job and don't worry about damaging your good saw. You wouldn't catch me using our Kapex or fine finish miter saw to cut FC.

  7. I went last year. Some cool stuff. Awesome and I mean awesome German lunch, Some free beer, a few new items, and mostly a tour and meet and greet. It was only a 2.5 hour drive for me so worth it.

  8. Get a Stinger manual stapler. Awesome tool for housewrap and roofing underlayment!! The caps do jamb a litte bit even with that way faster and easier than hand nailing or dragging a hose around.

  9. Yea nice van! I just got a new sprinter so I'm sharing your happiness! It's so nice to have room lol. Have you considered some sort of covering over the plywood floor? That's my dilemma right now

I have given it some thought. We kinda like that the floor has some grip to it but isn't rough. If I did a coating I would want the same and don't know what that would be. As it it right now I don't have any plans to.

  10. I like how clean and organized it is. Many times you see a work van/truck/trailer and it is a mess.

That drives me nuts! The most important thing is there is a specific place for everything so it is very quick and easy to grab what you need and then put it back at the end of the day. It has made our end of day cleanup much faster.
