If you look at the battery photo in the OP, there are 2 recesses, lower down and to the left and right of terminals B+ and B-.. The Red transport clip has two tags that locate into these, and push them inwards, thus initiating the 'disconnect' within the battery...

Not sure on the negativity towards the 'so called' inferior model... Base has been changed to reduce weight, and slightly cheaper manufacturing no doubt, plus the fact that if you were to have an accident and 'drop' the saw, then it's only a replacement plastic handle rather than a whole new base.... Also, the UK/EU version of the saw boasts a 10" pull-out versus the 8" on the US version.... The handle on the front actually lifts up slightly and then locks 'positively' into the pre-set indents similar to most other Dewalt saws...

Yep... Thats my Van Guys... What do you Guys want to know??... There aren't any updates to this Tool Connect system since it's launch, but there are some interesting 'muted' ongoing ideas for future benefits.. All of which (I'm afraid) are under the terms of an NDA....

Agree with what you are saying to an extent.
I think my feelings are in terms of wanting Dewalt to be 'World Leaders' of innovation and first to market with everything, where they seem (in recent years) to have been playing follow my leader..
However, I think I'm correct in saying that they were first to Market with the 'Charger' Site radio, and the Gas-less Second Fix Nail gun (10+ yrs ago), also the Gas-less First Fix Framing Nailer (only one on the market), the soon to be released 'Brushless' Cordless planer, and the ...!!!! (oh yes, I can't mention that yet...Lol..)..
I think them playing 'second fiddle' for a while, is due to their R&D into the switching of Battery packs from 'Stem Packs' to 'Slide packs'..
Some other manufacturers were not so diligent with this, and hence they have dropped a clanger and frustrated their own end users when it comes to compatibility between their own 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 amp/hr battery packs.. Something you have no issue with when it comes to Dewalt..
Now the Foundations are sorted, I think that the confidence in the Product is reflected in Sales, hence profitability and potential greater funding for their engineering teams to slowly become the 'Innovative' Brand we once knew...

On the original XPS saws, it cam with a little 'pin' that clipped into the trigger to make it 'safe'.. However it is not something that comes with the saws nowadays.. However, it is useful when in Retail displays and at Shows, as you can 'lock' the trigger facility and allow the end user to see the advantages of the XPS light..
Bluetooth batteries do bring a lot of 'advantages' for sure.. The fact that I can have all my tools disabled when I pop down the shops is somewhat satisfying...

I test tools for Dewalt in the UK, and we have to sign NDA's (Non disclosures).. This particular 'episode' is part of a bigger picture which will all become apparent 'soon'... It's not just Dewalt who would be upset at this problem, as any of the Manufacturers would feel the same.. Big Up to TIA for respecting their relationship with Dewalt, and acting accordingly...
The fact that this particular unit hit the headlines and ended up where it did will surely spark some 'reviews' of who, what, when and where...
This time next year the full picture will become clear.... 'Mum's the Word'....

If I could post up a pic of what Ive been doing with it recently I would, but I think I'd get shot.. Let's just say the 'Makita' boys on site are all over it, and they are more than likely jumping ship to 'Black and Yellow' based on this Saw and another couple of items I have on test...
I've cut a whole Roof (very large) with the DCS391 18V Cordless Skill Saw, and have cut all the Studwork and counter battening with the Cordless Chop-Saw...

Just FYI Guys... I am testing the EU model as we speak, and it totally rocks..
As far as the weight, it is superb.. I've been dragging it from the Van, 500m to my Jobsite, and then up three flights, all by the carry handles of the 'extended' saw base...
I totally agree with the black 'v' yellow dials, and although I haven't had any issues, the yellow could be better...
As for the 'Turn Knob' to lock.. it has the standard indents on the base, and you actually 'pinch' the turn handle and saw base between finger and thumb, squeeze them together and rotate to base to suit.. However, it is a requirement to turn to 'lock' in the obscure angles...
The advantage I can see is that the turn knob projects very little compared to the US 'clamp style' and could be less likely to become damaged on the Jobsite...

745 is a Great, portable lightweight Saw.. It can come on a RS (Rolling Stand) here in Europe, and over here it has had a 'rolling' change (update) to give a 24" or 610mm rip cut, along with an updated fence etc..
Yes, it doesn't cope with the Capacity for Dado blades (stacked blades) but in Europe at least, that is mainly down to the legalities of electric brake requirements on the motor...

Does anyone know if the planer has one or two blades on the cutting barrel?? I have seen the Bosch cordless planner has only one, and I am pretty sure that the Makita is the same! I would have thought the Dewalt would be the same, putting less stress on the motor.
The Planer has two blades on the cutting barrel... Standard size 82mm double sided blades...
Makita has the same too..

i just bought the new dewalt radio, and oh my god, this thing really rocks! seriously, this radio has a ton of bass, and sounds clear even at high volume. time to get rid of my makita and milwaukee radios. lol
Great to hear this Framer... Being a European tool tester and lets say Dewalt 'Brand Ambassador' in the UK, it sometimes causes people to think that I wax lyrical about products for the sake of it.. Good to hear that your review backs up what I have been saying for a while now..
I can at long last get rid of any competitors Radio form my Van set up in Favour of the Dewalt, which (in my opinion) has got to be the best out in the market place, and will take something truly special from someone else to knock it of it's podium...

The Dewalt tough case radio will charge batteries as well. It has 4 speakers and 2 subs so the sound should be better than the older models. Can anyone confirm that the tough case radio has better sound and bass than previous models? OH and they finally put BT in the full size radios, no more adaptors necessary .
The latest Dewalt 'Tough Music' - (to use it's official description) totally blows anything else out of the water..
I was on a Jobsite (here in the UK) the other Day, and the Dewalt Team came to visit me (as part of my usual product testing duties) so I asked them to bring the New Tough Music Radio..
We set it up and left it running for an hour or so whilst we discussed new products..
Within that time, 2 out of 6 other contractors on site, got on the phone and ordered one.. And one of them contractors currently holds no other Dewalt tools in their kit.(as yet)...
Thats how good the product is....

Cheers for the detailed explanation Rossi. I didn't know the sides are overmoulded with rubber. That should cause some friction.
And that nipple should help. I have to see and feel it in person to judge.
Some clips would have been best, but yeah, it will possibly end up with a modification one way or another haha.
Aside from that, really curious about the soundquality. I should be getting a visit soon from my DeWALT rep, so I hope he has it in his van for a little demo.
How's the reception? DAB is still a little hit and miss around here. Very depended on your location, but the one complaint you hear the most from previous team yellow radios is bad reception (AM/FM). I don't have that problem myself, but just asking. Doesn't seem to have an external antenna?
As a tester, I am privy to some detailed and confident information, some of which I can't divulge..
However, I will just say that the inner workings have been designed in conjunction with a pretty hi end 'Audio' specialist, and due to the 'Lack of Aerial' that you refer to, there is a very clever receiver set-up that continually scans to check for the best signal, and will switch accordingly to provide the best quality broadcast...
Did I mention that there are 4 multi-dictional speakers on the top, and two 8" downward firing subs (size is approximate) on the underside that gives that epic sound....

Hopefully I can be of some help...
This Radio (in Europe at least) is a full AM/FM DAB+ Radio Charger... Its IP rated, and definitely has the best sound bar none.. It's truly awesome...
It also boasts 'Bluetooth' (great to bluetooth music direct from your phone) with about a 30m range, and also acts as a USB charger even when using it in Battery mode (any variant from 10.8v to 18v - any any a/h) which was only previously possible when connected to the mains... Obviously the bigger the battery, and the bigger the a/h, the longer the charge...
With regards to any fears over the lack of clips for racking, I can concur that it does (sort of) clip in... the sides of the Radio (as seen in the picture) are completely over-moulded in rubber, so that with the weight of the Radio, friction will basically hold it in place..
However, what the 'Black and Yellow' gang have done is moulded a little circular 'nipple' which locates into the circular area of the folding arms on the trolley (or in the Van racking if you have joined the club..lol)..
So in essence, the weight of the Radio, coupled with the locating 'nipple' on the arms, does mean it 'clicks' in the Van... My only concern is that with continual 'abuse' you could damage the 'moulded nipple' and cause it to flatten and reduce it's efficiency..
Cue a 'Mr Yellow' after market modification me thinks...
Hope this makes sense....
Back to sound.... When we were demonstrating the 'Tough Music' at a recent show (the first show n the UK to expo the Tough Music) it was placed in the back of the Van and turned up.. One Guy commented at the quality of the sound system in the Van, and was convinced it was the Amps and Bass Tube installed in the Van that was responsible for the Quality of the sound...It was great to then remove the unit from the racking and prove it was in fact the 'Tough Music which was responsible for the Quality of sound.. Based on that Demo, people were literally queueing to buy one...

Yes Buddy.. It's the 1/4" Router, with the Motor ripped out, and replaced with '3/4' of the Clamshell, motor and electronics of the 20v Cut out tool... Bit of a head crunch to begin with, but pretty easy in the end... Only thing I couldn't get working was the Electronic speed control (I'll let Dewalt figure that one out) or any electronics to stop the battery draining too low.. My Guess is that you'll hear the battery draining, and switch out as soon as you think it's starting to spin below optimum RPM...
