  1. I decided I wanted to make it look nice but still used and well worn and a little banged around like a good vise should.  I decided to paint a few areas I wasn't planning on painting and then take off most of the paint with sandpaper so you could just see a little.  Well the paint adhered a little better than I was hoping for even with some precautions taken. So, there's more paint on it than I was hoping for now that it's painted but it still operates flawlessly and I guess it will pick up the look more over time.  Anyway - here's it is for now....  I may strip those pieces again later but I haven't decided yet.  (Also - not the best picture but it will do for now.)

  2. rocking chairs are some serious work! I don't know if I would attempt one yet or not... id need way more clamps that's for sure

You can never have too many clamps.  Never. lol.  I keep looking at the Bessey 98 inch parallel clamp at the store when i go knowing I don't have a use for it yet... but I still kind of want it! ;D

  3. Still a lot to do but I finally got to a place where I can see a layout of what it will look like finished.  I have another level of the drawer boxes on the sides to build, a drawer in the front that will slide out from under the food board.  I have molding and a topper to add to the head board and food board. and then a support frame and slats for the middle of the bed. Then I have to trim the boxes, make the drawers, stain, paint, and move it into the house.  Whew!  I'm a long way off I think.

  4. Looks like my post was edited by a mod, but yours was left to continue being disrespectful towards me. Too bad there is no block button lol. Ok so hears the deal guys. I am going to do my best to clean up my act as far as the dirty talk is concerned. I am doing this by my own volition, nobody spoke to me about it. But it was your post responce Moxy that has made me decide to start being more clean, cause I don't want anymore responces like that in the future. This will also be the last time I speak to you as well Moxy, I don't feel that we mesh you know what I mean. So you will go your way and I will go mine. But the great thing about TIA is there is so many of us, so not everybody is going to like everybody you know lol.

I guess I missed something - I thought we were joking around.  I tried to send you an IM but I guess I'm blocked so I'll say it here.  I don't really know what I did but to offend you but I want to apologize and say I'm sorry for whatever that may be.  Hope you have a good day!

Also -  Back to the thread topic -  I got the vise all cleaned and painted.  Just waiting for it to dry and put it together and post some pics!

  5. For about half the price you can give the Ryobi a try (about $110.00 less).  I've been using one for the last few weeks and it's been fantastic.  My concern is that all these battery nail guns are still early generation equipment.  I'm hoping there are some improvements over the next year or so that make waiting to spend the extra money worth it.  Be that as it may - the Ryobi hasn't missed a beat and the battery outlasts the nail capacity for at least 3 reloads.  In fact I think I'm about to run through my fourth load and haven't had to charge the battery again yet.  As for what size - Home Depot has combo's on sale now.  You can get an 18ga brad and a 16ga finish for $387.00 ($158.00 over the price of the single ridgid 18ga).  If you want the 18ga crown stapler too there's a combo for that also that is listed at $526.00.  The Angled finish 16ga is higher at $270 by itself.

There - doesn't that make your decision more confusing? lol  Hope that helps a little.

  6. Oh man, that is something I gotta do with my bench vise. I think its time that I grease that thing up. I've never had one apart before, but I figure I can grease up the shaft so that it moves in and out better. OMG, did I just say that just now? Why is it when I say something important about tools, it comes out nasty? Good lord :P

If you do, post your pics or it didn't happen.  Plus then we'll all get to see you really ARE talking about tools instead of what you do in your free time.

  7. An old Columbian D4 31/2   vise.  A good American made product!   I didn't have any bolts to mount it with but I'll be picking some up this week sometime.  I think I lucked out too.  The guy I purchased this from was going to restore it but decided he needed a bigger vise, so he had already stripped it down and cleaned it up some.  All I have to do is put a little bit more work  into it, a little grease, clean up some sharp gouges, give it a nice original red paint job and it will be ready for prime time!

  8. Looks really nice, are you going to stain it?

OK here's my plan... she loves the old worn out look.  So I'm going to stain it with the steel wool / vinegar and black tea mix.  That should get the wood nice and aged looking, then I'm going to give it a few coats of different milk paints using the bees wax and Vaseline methods for the chippy paint look.  Once that's finished i'll sand it down in a few places to show the oxidized stain job.  I picked up some egg and dart crown to go under the top piece of wood and started the making foot-board last night.  Once I get them both together I'll post another picture.  Should be this weekend fingers crossed!

  9. Building a storage bed for my wife... So far only the headboard is anything but lumber.

I still have a lot to do to the headboard but hey - you guys will keep me honest so I don't get lazy right?

Footboard starting to look like furniture.  Sorry about the egg and dart crown in the picture  - That's actually going on the tops of these once I finish putting them together and patching all my holes.

  10. All my receipts go in my manuals.  These are either stapled or dropped in a Ziploc bag.  All my manuals go in my file cabinet.  That way even if I need the manual 10 years from now I still have the receipt.  If it happens to be an electronic manual or electronic receipt I keep a copy online (Google drive)  and TRY... to keep a copy of the receipt on my phone (I use a program called Scanbot).  Then I have it with me if I need to take an item back.
