  1. If you have Metabo 18v or would like to pick up some to try out then I would check your Local Lowe's. There is one Lowe's in my area that had the end cap of Metabo tools which are now all heavily discounted. They are being clearanced out currently to be sold online only.

  2. In doing all this research today on Bosch 12v versus Makita 12v I noticed one thing which bothered me. The newest Bosch 12v brushless offerings (PS22 and PS32) are rated much lower in power compared to their brushed counterparts (PS21 & PS31).

    PS21 & PS31 are rated at 265 in/lbs

    PS22 & PS32 are rated at 179 in/lbs

    Makita 12v CXT lineup at 280 in/lbs

These are numbers I checked with Bosch NA and Bosch Germany websites. Also noted was the Bosch PS22 and PS21 are the exact same size but the brushless PS22 is .1 pound less weight. This does not seem like a good trade off just to have a belt clip and bit holder. The PS32 is a bit smaller than the PS31.

I am not certain if this would translate in the real world. I loved my PS31 and just recently got the PS32. I have not used it much. I own both still. I guess a tool fight to prove if the brushless is indeed less powerful.

Note: The Bosch PS42 is the same dimensions as the PS41 with a slight bump in power (110nm to 105nm). Granted the PS42 gets light control, variable speed, and a belt clip. I just don't see the innovation here. All these years the PS41 has been out and it is still a contender. Now a new version is out with new components and the size is the same with minimal power increase. I for one, will not be upgrading my PS41.

I absolutely love my Bosch 12v tools. That being said I am curious to see where Makita is heading with their 12v lineup. I don't know if I would be inclined to switch, but it could be interesting to see them make a run at Milwaukee. I almost grabbed one of the 12v Makita kits when they were on sale for father's day.

The Makita 12v $99 sale kits contain their brushed models with only 1.5ah batteries. All other kits contain 2.0ah batteries.

The PS22 is a lot shorter than the 32 and I honestly never really considered that one as my CXS has a Jacobs chuck too. The Makita look like awesome little tools and appear to be sized like the Hilti but I think the Hiltis might be a tad bit smaller.

I am familiar the PS22 is a lot shorter than the PS32 since it has no chuck. There is no comparison photo of the Bosch PS22 versus this new Makita CXT brushless screwdriver. It looks like it would be a close match for sure. I have not researched the claimed power level of each.

Is that the rumor about them Fazz? That is pretty exciting. I don't currently have a compact impactor and keeping my 12v Blues is a priority for me.

You can now pick up the Bosch brushless impact (PS42) on Ebay for $124 shipped. This seems like a pretty good price. The Bosch 10.8v (12v) circular saw, grinder, and rotary tool are all around $150 shipped for the bare tools. The damn brushless drywall screwgun has not made it to Ebay yet. I caved and got the DeWalt drywall gun kit on sale much cheaper than I could buy the 12v Bosch bare tool.

  6. I too love my Bosch 12v lineup. I recently upgraded my PS31 drill to the PS32 Brushless drill. It is a bit more compact than the PS31 and has a belt clip which I like a lot. I am a little disappointed that power was not increased and they got rid of the rubber on the front of the grip. Is the PS22 brushless screwdriver any smaller than the PS21? I do not believe I will be upgrading my PS41 impact to the brushless unit as power was not increased any. I definitely don't need an increase in runtime as it is already awesome. I do love my 12v barrel grip jigsaw though.

As of late though, the Makita 12v lineup has me very interested and considering a switch. They new brushless varieties are awesome and quite compact. Plus, they already have a saw in the states whereas Bosch has had theirs out 3 years with no sign of it coming to NA.

The new Makita brushless drill (FD07R1) is also much more powerful than the Bosch PS32.

Yup. Typical. I'm really pissed it appears they may scratch the 40v line already.

DeWalt stated they are not scratching the 40v platform. It is a dedicated battery platform for the OPE equipment. Look at the size of the 40v battery to the 60v, it is a monster. It is specifically developed to handle high demand OPE equipment. This was all stated to various people who attended the DeWalt event.

  8. I see that cart and I just think about all that wasted space. It is too wide anyway. I currently do not own any Tough System boxes. I have about 8 of the Ridgid Pro tool boxes, 1 being the cart. I also have about 10 of the Tstak boxes in varies sizes on 2 rolling bottoms. I also have the Bosch folding hand truck with 8" wheels for moving items up stairs.

I am however, interested in the tough system bottom box with wheels. I want to get my grubby hands on it to check it out.

  9. Why do people get all hot and bothered from DeWalt using 20v max for the naming of their 18v battery line? It is not lying or deceiving as it is technically true. Every manufacturer here in us does it with their 12v battery line as those tools are all 10.8v nominal and 12v max. Both are correct. To me, it is up to the end user to do their research, feel the tool, and know what the product is they are buying.

  10. You do realize PC and dewalt r both stanley black and Decker right

Yes, that should be common knowledge here in the depth of tool discussion. What is your point? The fact they are both are housed under one company yet DeWalt doesn't have nailers out and Porter-Cable does seems like a problem for DeWalt to me. Everyone has nailers now, but DeWalt. Ugh.

  11. I am disappointed there was no 20v tools released or concepts shown.

Where is the 20v 18ga nailer already!? I am already bummed the 20v 16ga angled finish nailer is not as strong as the old 18v unit.

That and Porter Cable today released 3 new 20v nailers on their platform! Come on DeWalt, this is ridiculous.

  12. I own both the oil impulse and the DTD170 (bought on Ebay from Japan). I absolutely love both of them but I find myself reaching for the oil impulse 90% of the time. This tool is so quiet yet very powerful. The specs aren't the same as the power is stated as lower but with the way the oil impulse works, it drives screws and smaller lags quickly. What I like most is the superb feathering ability of the trigger combined with the smooth hammer action of the oil impulse. This allows me to tighten screws and hardware with infinite precision. Don't get me wrong, the DTD170 is amazing! This impact is insanely powerful. Being a trim carpenter and doing small renovations, the oil impulse is fantastic for my needs.

Exactly what more do you need a cordless tool to do? If you need a power planer, by all means buy a dedicated table top power planer. The video you're referencing had the tester pushing them far beyond what anyone needs to do for a tool. Once you reach the realm of obvious abuse, the argument goes away. Both are good tools and were very competitive to one another.

As for runtime, throw in one of the new 6ah batteries and come talk to me.

I agree, I was just stating what I saw. I am on the DeWalt platform and would easily go for their planer.

  14. I am still sad they couldn't design one to outperform the aging Makita brushed planer. Even though it was brushless it could not beat the Makita in power or runtime. And the Makita is smaller by a decent portion.

  16. I have the New DeWalt flexible shaft right angle impact adapter. It works really good and has saved my butt a lot of aggravation. It comes with a solid metal (covered in plastic) handle that threads into the solid metal 90* adapter head. This allows for another way of putting pressure on screw/bolt being driven besides holding the actual adapter. The handle has a threaded port on both left and right sides of the 90* adapter head.

I am glad I purchased it. Still wondering if I should but the Makita 18v 90* impact tool or not. I don't think I really need it at this time.

  17. Where the hell is the 20v 18ga nailer DeWalt!?

    20v 15ga nailer?

    12v Pin nailer?

Come on already. I am still using my 10+ year old 18v NiCad versions, albeit, they are working as good as they were new. I would like to update even though the new 16ga is not really much lighter...or smaller.

    Also,

Why isn't the 16ga out at the big box stores yet for sale? I saw a couple Milwaukee M18 nailer at Home Depot way up on the top shelf last night and those are just coming out. Online is the only abled way to get one still.

    Rant over.
