It should be possible for DeWALT to make ONE battery powered tool, ONE battery pack for each Ah rating, offered worldwide, but make country-specific charging stations.

As Jimbo has pointed out, DeWalt have already thought of that! 😂

My garage/workshop is populated with a mix 'n' match assortment of 18V XR (EU) and 20V Max (US) tools, sourced and collected depending on price and availability. I try to buy bare in US as much as possible to avoid junking perfectly good (but useless to me) chargers.

    £269 each!?!

I live in UK but buy most of my Dewalt gear in US. Currently sat on a 747 heading home with a 60V blower in the hold.

Have two 12Ah batteries ($199 each) and two 20V sanders ($94 each with BF code) on order and will pick those up when I’m back in February.

  3. I’m in the UK and around 80% of my Dewalt cordless kit is purchased in the US and shipped back personally (I take around 4 business trips to Miami each year). I buy mainly bare tools and have only ditched one US charger.

So yes, you’ll be fine but consider two factors:

    1) Kiss goodbye to any warranty. I’m a keen DIYer so my tools are all (relatively) lightly used.

    2) Take ALL batteries in hand luggage. Check your airline’s Li-Ion restrictions carefully and take a copy with you in case CBP get picky. With the Flexvolt batteries, make sure the transport cap is fitted. Again, take a copy of Dewalt’s guidance on the transport cap in case CBP take interest.

    I’ve carried 3-4 5Ah batteries and 2x 9Ah flexvolt batteries no problem.

EDIT: Sorry, just re-read your post. You need to check if the batts can be shipped in the container.

Looks like he sander is getting into the hands of reviewers. TiA has one, Toolpig has one...I want to know when I can get one. Any idea when we’ll see it in the big box stores?

I think Acme are saying end of November

  5. I ended up buying the mower ‘bare’ here in the UK (where that is an official Dewalt option, rather than a reseller removing the batteries/charger from a kit and selling separately).

Expensive but allowed me to just throw in 2x 9Ah batts I already owned.

Might be a little heavy to check that mowe.

    :)

Amazon says 74lb shipping weight. Minus 4lb for the batteries and charger puts me bang on my single item limit of 70lb.

My only real concern is box strength and the mower being damaged in transit.

I haven’t read any info anywhere about that being an option. I’m fairly sure the press release said the 40v is kit or bare but 20v is solely kit. It’s too bad because I have no real use for 5.0s.

UK resellers are selling it for £349 bare but at that price I may as well buy the kit in the US, keep/sell the 5’s and toss the 110V charger.

(I travel to US pretty regularly and travel hand luggage only. My checked bag allowance on the return leg generally has a ‘Dewalt’ flavour)

  8. Does anyone know of a US retailer selling the 2x20V mower as a bare unit?

I see the 40V version available bare but cannot see anywhere offering the ‘homeowner’ version on the same basis.
