Makita is a beast of a grinder but Milwaukee has better ergonomics, quick lock nut if you get the braking, better guards and takes up to five inch discs, metabos rock any other grinder imo but you'll pay an arm and a dick

I'll be heading to Home Depot to checkout the grinders before picking a cordless one up so I can see how they feel in my hands. The braking Milwaukee is $70 more than the regular fuel one so while I like the added safety it'll depend on whether or not I want to spend the extra money and they feel good in my hands. The Metabo corded one I am interested in is $125 or $135 if I want the gold anniversary edition, that's the only reason I'm even considering them. The cordless ones won't be added to the collection unless I find some other Metabo cordless tools and buy a bare tool.

A garage sale or a swap meet during the summer might be your best bet though. I have occasionally found old jointer planes at antique stores in the past, but most of them wanted too much money for the condition they were in.

Or an estate sale, since they are actually for getting rid of things unlike a garage sale where someone may be attached to something and want higher price because they don't want to get rid of it or because it has sentimental value.

  3. This has been a very helpful topic, I need to pickup a grinder or two. I'm looking at the Milwaukee M18 2780-20 or the Makita 18v XAG10Z for a cordless one, and the Metabo WP9-115QUICK for a corded grinder. I like the idea of the Metabo cordless ones, but they all appear to be $400+ for a kit and I can buy other tools with the money saved for my existing battery platforms.

  4. Mods I believe I've adhered to all of the rules for this post if I haven't please let me know what I need to do to fix it or if I need to remove it.

    ---

I have a brand new M12 2462-20 1/4" Impact Driver bare tool that I'm looking to part with, it's a brushed impact driver. I bought this as a kit that came with a free M12 3/8" ratchet since I needed more batteries and the ratchet on November 11, 2016. The impact has never been used.

I already have this same impact model as part of another kit so I don't really need two of the same tool in this case. The tool retails for $79 but I'm selling for $50 which includes shipping. I'm in Queenstown, MD so I'm willing to ship to anywhere in the continental US via USPS Flat Rate, payment via PayPal.

They've announced a slim 3.0Ah just not released it yet for marketing reasons.  I've never felt the need for a smaller battery on the M18 jigsaw and I don't think the 9.0 Ah would make a big difference since the tool is almost always resting on a workpiece.  Do you use a jigsaw on vertical surfaces frequently?

No and to be honest I haven't used it that often or in a while, I just remember it feeling off when I did use it. It could have been a different reason I didn't like it, but for some reason my mind is just remembering the battery being a problem/annoyance. I'll have to pull it out and use it to see if I can remember what the issue was.

I've always looked at it and doesn't feel overly cheap but I've never used one, personally for something like that I'd drop some more coin

Yeah, I'm leaning towards the 18v Makita after thinking about it more. It's one less cord to worry about and I can use it anywhere in or outside the shop without having to move things around to plug it in.

I thought there was word of a slim 3.0 m18 coming outemoji848.png. Or maybe I misunderstood.

I really hope they come out with some slim 3.0 M18 batteries, I have a 1.5Ah and 2.0Ah slim pack and I want more for when I have to use something a few times and not all day. The big 3.0's that came with the jig saw just make a heavy tool even heavier, I can't imagine running a 9.0 on it.

  8. My main platform is Milwaukee M12 because that's what most of my tools are. I'm slowly upgrading to M18 tools and adding in tools from other brands; I don't think I will invest in another 12v platform except maybe just a Fein MultiTalent. My brushed M12 drill will probably remain my only drill until I have a need for a hammer drill or it breaks, however I've replaced the brushed M12 impact with a brushed Makita 18v version.

  9. I like the idea, but not the price. I can get a gas powered zero-turn for less than it from Toro, or a John Deere one for a little more. A John Deere in a similar style is a grand less, so they would have to drop the price to that level for me to even consider it. Their battery powered push mowers seem reasonably priced and I'll probably look into them come Spring since my mower is on it's last leg.

Does anyone know if it's normal when charging a Makita battery with the battery fuel gauge for the charger to show low battery level during the entire charging time?

    Thanks

I don't know if it's normal, but I had the same thing going on when I charged my 2.0 and 3.0 batteries with the fuel gauge yesterday. The red indicator was on for almost the entire charging time and the gauge was at 4 when I checked them near the end of the normal charging times. I know the 2.0 was almost entirely dead when it went on, the 3.0 was at 3 bars. I was also using the DC18RC charger

  11. I pulled out everything I had at the time except the 2-1/4 HP EVS Multi-Base Router kit to take this photo back in the beginning of October for an Instagram contest. It won me a free 9.0 battery. Everything stays in a case or bag at the moment unless I'm using it, once I get the garage setup as a shop I'll have things in their own area. I'll pull everything out and get an updated "family photo" then.

The only decision I'm not happy with is the SDS hammer, I should have bought the the M18 Fuel version instead of corded and I probably should have picked the regular handle over the D-handle.

A few weeks ago I got the idea to move my batteries to a Milwaukee organizer with some Kaizen foam.

Original Idea before the foam arrived:

Final layout after I received 2 more 9.0 batteries:

    Unknown-2.jpeg

6x 1.5Ah M12 batteries, a rapid charger and 3x 9.0Ah M18 batteries. Plenty of power in an easy to carry box. I'll probably start replacing the 1.5 batteries with compact 3.0 batteries.

  12. That sucks, I hope it shows up soon. I received one last week as part of a prize package. The light that is also supposed to come as part of the prize wasn't available at their office to send out, but the batteries were readily available according to the message I received from them today. Hopefully since they have them readily available in the US it means they've received them in Canada and can get them out.

I've said it many times and I'll say it again, cordless drills are a gateway drug. The bait you in cheap, next thing you know you have more batteries than friends.

Lol. I was looking at drill kits just as a cheap way to get into other battery platforms before Christmas. A holiday sale made a impact driver kit the same price as the drill. I need it more often than a drill, so I have a new battery platform to throw money at. I want the Ridgid cordless router so I'll probably be using a drill kit as a way into that platform.

If they don't make the tool you want in a kit, the drill kit is the way to go because it's going to be cheaper than buying a battery and charger most of the time.

  14. The first pack of makita golds I bought weren't worth shit. Not sure what went wrong with that batch, but the set I bought a couple of weeks ago have been kicking ass!

I've heard both good and bad things about them but figured at $6 it was worth it to have some bits in the case until I figure out if it's going in my bag with my M12 drivers and bit kits or in a different bag.
