I picked up a 4 pack of bessey clamps for $150. The price is normally $264. I didn't use any specific method to find the deal. I got word of the deal when a youtuber I watch made a post of the deal. I should watch the video posted in this thread to see what their method is.

You should, there's a few good techniques in there!

It looks pretty well set up to me.  If it works for you that's all that matters.  One thing I did years ago, though, was make pliers holders out of cheap wire racks.  So long as the drawer is tall enough, you can store pliers on their sides and free up a bunch of space.

Your Princess Auto tools are nothing to be ashamed of if they're anything like Harbor Freight's.  While the latter store does sell complete garbage their Pittsburgh Pro brand allows the customer on a budget to build up what they need.  Perhaps the best part is having matching sets.  When I consolidate my mechanics tools it's going to be a nightmare to organize.  Mostly Craftsman wrenches and sockets with a fair number of Snap-On and Matco and a few Mac.  Over the past ten years I've bought a lot of Kobalt and even some DeWalt and Milwaukee handtools since a lot of the older stuff is in storage.

Your shop looks incredibly well organized (my shop is in a completely disorganized fetal state) and thought out.  I can only hope to one day get close to that.  In the meantime I've got to clear out storage units full of tools, decide what to get rid of, and invest in a couple larger tool boxes.

I do try to keep things organized, only way to make efficient use of the little space I have.

I have some pliers racks (I used them on my vise grips), might have to take another shot at standing them up.

So I recently picked up a Wera Kraftform Kompact bit driver. It's pretty nice, but I find the collar that releases the hex shaft to be REALLY stiff. For anyone that has one, is this normal?

I also did a quick two minute video of it, if you want to see what it's all about and how stiff it is too, see above.

  4. At least when it comes to grinders...it's actually a bit of an interesting result:

I know it's not Tuesday, so technically not a Tool Test Tuesday video, but this is one I've wanted to do (and have been promising) for a while as I've never seen anyone comparing such different grinders against each other. Not exactly the results I expected, somewhat, but power has a bigger impact than wheel size from what I saw. The DWE4597 7" grinder is an absolute beast

Though, funny, the littlest/slowest grinder in this test is the one I use the most...reason being? It's easier to control and get a nice clean grind with.

Let me know what you think, what do you guys all use for grinders?

I am doing the same thing also with amazon, but it has been almost two years now you can not find amazing discounts on amazon, also I don't see anything proper on eBay in auction anymore.

I'm still finding stuff. Not a tool but literally today I got a $3065 JBL VRX918SP subwoofer (it's a pro audio sub, I do live sound on the side) for $1460 (Canadian Dollars). I had followed it for a week and was dropping $80/day roughly, finally bit on it when it got below half price. Cost on these is $2000+ so it's definitely a loss for amazon and a gain for me :)

I also have recently picked up a Nicholson file for $6.98 when they're regular $15-20, not a sale, clearing out one model. I've also had a few Mitutoyo deals over the last year, $150 dollar measuring instruments for $50-60.

Most of my air tools were stolen along with my compressor over nine years ago.  I was left with my trusty and well-used Ingersoll Rand 231 impact wrench and ended up getting a 1/2" ratchet on clearance at Lowe's.  I'll be honest, I haven't even thought of using air tools for years now.  I have both the newer and older high torque and the mid torque M18 Fuel impact wrenches, DeWalt Xtreme 3/8" impact wrench, M12 Fuel 1/2" ratchet, and the standard m12 3/8" ratchet.  I often think of how nice these would have been when I turned wrenches for a living, especially when I was a road technician often working on equipment in the middle of a warehouse.

For sure, cordless stuff has come such a long ways in the last 10 years or so that a lot of my air stuff sits unless I "need" it.

Same thing with using brake clean to clean and de-grease metal. The UV light from welding breaks the chemicals down to phosgene gas which was a chemical weapon they used during WW1.

That's only chlorinated brake clean and argon, but never trust the label...brake clean and welding are a no-no.

The zinc in galvanizing is not good for your health at all (poisons you but basically makes you feel like you have the flu) and grinding it off will just make a mess of the surface. I'd honestly just grab a piece of plate steel to put on top, even 1/8-3/16" thick will work.

I have attempted to make a few videos, but realize I am just not cut out for it. It takes a lot of effort to do the work and convey it through video properly. I give the guys that can do it a lot of credit.

Yea same here. I've vfilmed myself doing work but I show no interest in explaining how to do it lol. It seems like a lot of work.

It can be a fair bit of work...especially if the video part doesn't interest you. I just started a YouTube channel a month ago for my garage stuff and it's been kind of interesting just learning how to do it. I started it more to pick up some extra skills (presenting/talking, video editing, etc.) and because I'm always doing something in the garage anyway each week.

    My channel is here:

If you're looking for good free video editing software, Davinci Resolve has a fully featured free version that is as good as any other editor out there (e.g. Adobe) but does have a bit of a learning curve. That's what I've been using to edit my videos and I haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do yet.
