  1. Yeah like I said, it appears SBD created the Stanley Fat Max line as an off shoot brand for overseas. First using Black and Decker, then Porter Cable, and then Craftsman V20.

And you are correct. They really don’t talk about overseas exclusive brands here in the state. As I stated, I was unaware Stanley Fat Max was even a brand until you posted about this charger. And only a couple pictures pop up if you Google image V20 Power Tools in the US.

Most casual users don’t even know Ridgid is AEG overseas.

Yes, they do look similar but I think the part of the plastic cover that slides into the tool is different. So it is not like Metabo HPT and Hikoki that the batteries are the same just basically with different brand name.

You’d be wrong. After some searching, Stanley Fat Max V20 and Craftsman V20 are in fact the same tools and batteries. The only difference is name and color. Just like Hikoki and Metabo HPT.

You don’t need to understand Indonesian to see a Craftsman V20 running on a Fat Max V20 battery.

No, the Stanley Fatmax batteries are slightly different than the Porter Cable ones, I have seen some videos that they do a little modification on batteries' plastic cover to work on the tools from the other brand. So the batteries are similar to Porter Cable and chargers to Craftsman. That is why I called it a complicated relation between these brands. This is the only way of getting a 240V Craftsman charger, so that Craftsman cordless tile cutter can be used in UK.

I'm not talking about Porter cable any more. The Stanley V20 battery and the Craftsman V20 battery look identical. Just different colors.

  4. Gotta say this blows my mind a little being on the Craftsman platform! I knew nothing about there being a Stanley Fat Max line of power tools. It looks like it began life as a B&D clone in 2012, then became a Porter cable clone, and is now a combination of clones from PC and DeWalt, the same as Craftsman is.

This is basically the same thing as Metabo HPT and Hikoki. Both the same tools. One is just for the USA, while the other is for the rest of the world. SBD certainly can't have two lines of tools in Yellow and Black.

  5. I have a back condition that is pretty bad. And the surgery to fix it is a 50/50 proposition as to whether I’ll get better or worse.

The best thing I’ve gotten to help so far is my adjustable bed. Talk about a life saver for someone who can’t sleep flat at all.

  6. I currently run six 4ah batteries, one 2ah battery, and one 1.5ah battery on 4 chargers.

My most power hungry tool is the brushless angle grinder which I can pretty much keep running continuously with five 4ah batteries. It cuts it close with full charges though. So I think if I added one more 4ah and charger, I should be good to go with continuously fully charged batteries.

I am not a fan of DeWALT any more, I was before, but not any more! I don't work with emotions, logic always comes first for me. I am just trying to share what I found online and also suggest a few things. It works or not, I don't know, it is not in my hand. Currently I am happy with CAS and the logic behind the alliance and I can see the idea is attracting more and more brands by time, currently there are 32 brands within the alliance and I think by the end of 2024 the tool range will be satisfying, Also different brands within this alliance offer the same tool with different qualities and prices, so there is more option to buy while you can keep yourself in the same battery platform. You can buy a cordless plunge saw from Metabo and also from Mafell both working with the same battery but different quality, Does DeWALT offer an option like this?! Or Milwaukee?! Or even Makita?! Plus most of the tools made by CAS brands (except Metabo) are made in EU. DeWALT, Milwaukee and Makita tools are almost 50% made in China, huge difference! I have to admit that DeWALT has done the right thing with choosing that colour for their brand, but they don't need to stick to that colour always. Sometimes changes are needed and necessary.

You sure? Nearly everything you post is either about CAS and the brands within, or if DeWalt has a cordless version of some tool. You definitely have a theme.

I am not against the brands making a more developed version of a specific tool but I think a cordless planer and router is more needed now for Festool users rather than a newly designed plunge saw.

A cordless trim router I could see, but outside of the track saw, most folks other than wealthy fans and tool reviewers usually have another brand handle their cordless needs.

  9. I have a gasoline generator. I have fuel on hand. The Northeast is home to all kinds of weather. Most I ever went without electricity was during Sandy for about a week. That little generator powered the whole house quite well as long as we didn’t run a lot of things that have large start up draws.

The wife usually keeps the pantry and fridge stocked. And where we live really isn’t prone wide scale shortages. Where I live is relatively safe, but I got plenty of fire power to protect the family as well.

While not a proper prepper. I do keep current with outdoor survival skills. And my job keeps my EMT skills fresh. So depending on the SHTF situation, I’m good. About the only situation I don’t see coming out of are nuclear scenarios. I live way to close to NYC and military targets to think I’d be safe. Just gotta wait out these last few years until retirement and a move to a more wide open area in the country.

That's quite the spreadsheet, and seems to be based on a decent algorithm.  I haven't watched any of Jeff's newer content, for some reason his posts pop up in my YouTube feed almost daily but his videos haven't.

Ryobi is in a class of its own.  I've seen Ryobi tools on jobsites and my neighbor, who owns an electrical contracting business, owns a One+ drill that he swears by.  I own a lot of Ryobi, but not too many core tools.  I got the jigsaw during Ryobi Days last year (my DeWalt jigsaw was lent out two years ago...I should probably contact the guy to get it and my router table back before I move) and picked up a Special Buy impact driver that was on clearance, but otherwise mostly own Ryobi's pretty decent non-tools.  No other brand offers the breadth of products Ryobi does, they're literally one of the coolest brands out there (really, I think they offer the largest lineup of cordless and hybrid fans).

"Buy This, Get That" type deals are hard to pass on if you are in the market.  I usually pick up something during Ryobi Days each year as getting two 4Ah batteries, a charger, and a free tool for $99 (the usual deal) is about as good as it gets these days.  Of course, I've picked up plenty of Milwaukee M12 tools and batteries during their promos, and my sole 20v Max XR 6Ah battery was free when I bought my first OMT.

I agree. He used a decent algorithm to compute these score and even factored in a “X Factor” score for folks to give their own input on the tests. I actually went through the list on a day off from work, and found a couple discrepancies on the tool offerings, but nothing game changing.

If you look around the channel, DeWalt has been going hard on the newer Sub Compact line of Impacts to go with their Stacked batteries. I would say it’s safe to assume full size offerings are coming out summer and fall maybe?

@PineyChapelPiddler ask and he shall receive. Hot off the presses……DeWalt’s newest Mid Torque.

Holy Driver, this thing just took over 1st place from the 40v Makita!! By a Lot. I can only imagine the numbers the new High Torque are gonna drop!!
