JMG
Most of my neighbors this year must not have been able to find any firecrackers to celebrate with, and they were out banging away with various calibers for at least fifteen minutes after midnight. I really hope they were firing into the ground, but I doubt it... There were a couple of strings of firecrackers let off, so a few weren't being complete idiots. Had a conversation last year with one of the boys down the street from me, and the look on his face when I told him that those bullets had to come down somewhere was priceless... He is a normally intelligent sort most of the time too.

I made sure to take my dog out 15 minutes before midnight to avoid any death from above.
JMG
It's a bit crazy that bullets seem easier to buy than fireworks here in Indiana. When I lived in Indy it was much worse than where I am now, and much less friendly too. I will be asking for a show of hands and asking any who raise them if they were shooting into the air at some point this year.
