kat
18V chargers have 7 extra connections to the yellow connector on the 18V batteries, besides the +/- connections. But 40V XGT batteries have only 4 and i think all of them are for +/-. 40V batteries are also missing the yellow connector. So that can mean only 2 things. Batteries are not balanced anymore, or that the balancing eletronics are part of the battery now,. which is unlikely.. Anyone knows more? tooluser
No, the XGT battery is using digital communication hence, no need for additional wiring. So yes, balancing is done in the battery in this case and I see no reason why it couldn't be. TBH the same was done in the LXT were you could find information that there's a very advanced chip which has built in cell balancing support. kat
Does that mean we can charge Makita batteries with any charger, including knock-offs? Because it only needs negative and positive
tooluser
Nope, it uses actually six connections. So you can't just wire up negative and positive and hope everything it will be ok - it won't.
Shondave
Tools batteries and chargers are the ones I always cose to be original. would you try to charge a 200Euro or more battery with a China dc power supply??? or spend money on xgt battery copies that cannot support neither 10amps load?? in my experience treat well batteries and will last, let them cool before charge and don’t discharge too deeply. I instead found some nice China 18v tools that can be powered with lxt batteries and perform very well. as someone said batteries are half the tool, in price and performance. If it's Makita original battery and charger, you don't need to. Original chargers has built in fans, and batteries when used with original tools have all protections in place.
