I fell victim to the frenzy of consumerism on Friday and ordered this...

I'm hoping to sell my corded saw and not have to worry about blowing fuses when I turn on my vacuum and try to saw something at the same time.  Then again, $500 (with tax) is not cheap and I could buy a lot of other toys for that.  Should I keep it or send it back / sell it?

Fuses? I’d keep the saw. That machine is a beast.

    DIY?

Pretty sure CD has forgotten more about building decks on the top of high rise buildings than anyone here will ever know.

The only thing I’m curious about is why he is asking on this forum instead of CT. Way too many fanboys here that don’t use tools for a living.

Sounds like he’s been soured on Dewalt and wanted real world feedback. People with voltmeters and specs may not be the most qualified to give it.

Tools and batteries in the weather act differently than tools that live in the garage.

Count me in as a fanboy who doesn’t use tools for a living. I guess being I’ve been in the forum as long as I have been, I’m used to everyone being on the same page as far as experience, training, love of all things tools etc...

I would point out that those “fanboys” make up the majority of the forum...which by the way is titled “Tools in Action” and is quite honestly made up of “fanboys” from all walks of life who like tools.

On another note, I’ve been watching / reading this posting as a “fanboy” who doesn’t use tools for a living and have been reading a lot of polarized views from some members. Let’s keep it friendly and professional. You know....so us “fanboys” don’t feel too nervous about posting here. I guess that is why I Mod. I don’t really know how to use the tools, just a lot of the the specs....

Can anyone recommend a planer to me?  I am looking at the Dewalt 734 model but get the feeling that one is being discontinued. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I’ve had the 734 for several years, I’ve heard nothing of a replacement either. Like rrich says support is important but that’s true for all planers.

New here to the group. Look forward to learning more about new tools on the market.  Own a plumbing company so I am always looking for ways to make the work easier for my guys.

    Welcome to the forums dude

  5. I ended up getting rid of the Bosch because the drill was huge. They have since released a couple of their newest most compact beasts with the same feature. I wish me Dewalt or my PDC had it but being I didn’t attend mechanic training 101  I’ve taken some pretty good bites from my drills while using hole saws mostly or hitting a particularly deep knot in hardwood. As far as what @kornomaniac says he sells those things all day long and knows exactly what Makita has to offer.

  6. Ive heard people bash the Dewalt 2 speed and laud it. Like i said, I’ve had mine for quite a while now without any issues except battery life. It operates best on the 5.0 or Flex.  Mine sinks the nails well, I’ve only had two jambs and the adjustments have been smooth.  No reason whatsoever to go with another one very happy.

Truthfully the only Hilti tool I have is their 12v hammer drill. Nice little gun but I don’t own anything else, I run a 20v Dewalt framer and have had it for five years of at home use, I’ve done some framing with it, mostly interior walls, a couple of PT foundations for sheds, hot tubs etc. and am using it on an shed project for a friend but no experience with Hilti. If it’s like everything else they make it’ll be pretty slick I’m sure.

The new/upcoming Bosch charger is a 16 amp charger. Highest amp charger I have seen. My DeWALT chargers do the job. Dual charger to top off the Flexvolt batteries is good enough. Always on the shelf in the garage ready to charge them after work.

    16?!?! That’s crazy!

In the field I use fast chargers to maintain productivity, and over the weekend I typically use the slower 2 amp chargers that come with drills etc to do maintenance cycles. Every Dewalt 20v charger will perform an 8hour maintenance cycle if the pack is left on charger, and I’ve found (just a personal observation not tested) that batteries perform better after letting them cycle. The Dewalt battery literature states to maintenance cycle once ever four charges for maximum health if memory serves.

Thanks for that, I did I not know they did a recycle. I keep the batteries off of the charger

Do DeWalt chargers have a fan that cools down batteries on the charger before starting to charge em ?

I only use the new flexvolt included fast chargers because of this. Makita spoiled me with their chargers. I never have had any issues with the older ones but the fan is a big deal to me.
