Once you put a 5amp battery on a trim router its as heavy as a mid sized router with half the power, so I'm not a fan of the current cordless trim routers.

Not sure why Jronman says the Makita has less vibration than the Ridgid. I have the Ridgid and it has no real noticeable vibration to me.

The Makita and Dewalt definitely have more power than the Ridgid. I also hate the height adjustment on the Makita. The Ridgid has a very nice height adjustment.

If you want it for more than laminate work I would go with the Dewalt or Porter Cable as they are pretty much identical, so I would let price determine between the two.

I would not put a trim router in a  table, I would go mid sized and up for that application. Just my opinion...

    Good info here...

If it is going to be in a router table I don't see a need for it to be cordless.

Totally what I was thinking as well. I'd definitely look at the Makita if I wasn't an anal-retentive German Virgo and lover of most things German. So it's probably going to be Bosch for me when I pull the trigger.

I don't remember which model of the big Bosch it is, but one of them has the power switch in the handle so it becomes somewhat problematic when used in a router table (second hand - and therefor possibly inaccurate - info gleaned from geeking out on YouTube router videos... possibly from Jay's Custom Creations channel? Just something to look into...)

I went last year. Some cool stuff. Awesome and I mean awesome German lunch, Some free beer, a few new items, and mostly a tour and meet and greet. It was only a 2.5 hour drive for me so worth it.

    Mmm, beer... free beer...

Love to get the new Milwaukee heavy duty fuel impact wrench ...1400 lbs !

I just bought the mid-torque. We'll see if I need the big gun, as well. I kinda doubt it. The high torque would probably just pick my Jeep up and flip it over. LOL

  5. Back to the OP....

one thing that that keeps me from getting a Kapex is that here, the cost is something like 225% of the Bosch. But the cost difference there is apparently much less. If you can swing it, that’s the way I’d go.

Once i I get all the detritus from moving out of my garage/shop, I will be looking at the Bosch, though. I fairly frequently get e-mails from a local shop that will run them for around $550 vs. $1475 for the Festool....

Right now I use Japanese stones and have a Worksharp station. Watch videos dude. Many guys have phenomenal videos in how to sharpen and set up as well as adjust the planes. I’ve learned EVERYTHING about hand planes on YouTube.

Yeah, I have been. That’s why I’m overwhelmed. LOL

well I put my FUEL grinder to the test last few days cutting out for new windows, with a 9.0ah battery on it I didn't even think about battery power or lack of with a battery. standing on top of scaffolding 4 sections high cutting 3/4" cement with a diamond blade.  I don't have any brushed Milwaukee tools all of mine are Fuel and I do strongly believe they are worth every extra penny......I may not be using my tools for making a living like some do but my time is worth something to me and having tools that work is too

Do you notice any additional power with the 9.0 battery?

Debating between this and the mid torque.  Don't have room in the garage for an air compressor and my cars are getting to that age where suspension work is required.

I just bought the mid-torque yesterday. We’ll see if I stumble across anything it won’t move. I may be getting the big fella down the road...
