  1. your on track with both the porter cable and the makita.. i had done some serious research at one point on belt sanders and those were the two brands i landed on..   im pretty sure i was leaning towards the makita in the end..    i didnt end up with either, put it on hold for a while and eventually i went with the Festool Rotex sanders.. now i dont even keep a belt sander in my trailer.. but for your uses (other than furniture) it sounds like a belt is a better choice for you..

the 3x21 is a much more common belt size, the bigger 3x24 belts should only last a little bit longer.   with the 3x21 you are at a 8amp motor for PC and a 8.8amp for Makita, makitas 3x24 is also 8.8amp.. which is probably more than enough for all these units.. if you want to stay in the 3x belt size but get more power im pretty sure PC has a 3x24 with 12amp.. thats most likly overkill for anything other than heavy duty use..

  2. Thats annoying Madman..   he should at least ask you if your interested and then respect your answer instead of just rambling on..

Hey, next time when he asks you if you want solar just say " hey that reminds me, Ive got a Truck  (insert any item for sale)  for sale, would you be interested in buying it??  then just ramble on and on about every single detail of it.. miles, tires are a little worn, its got a clunk in the rear end, color, non smoker, gas mileage, oil change schedule, engine size, current radio station presets and on and on and on and on.........   just follow him around the store trying to sell him that damn truck no matter what he says   ;D     he will never bother you again!! hahaha

around here i have seen a lot of guys pushing cabinet installs in the store, there has been a time or two where a Hvac company or something similar has had a table setup in the front of the store but they dont follow you around and harass you.. maybe say something when you walk by..

  3. How do you guys like the cordless jigsaws compared to the corded models?

I just decided to grab the New Makita Brushless jigsaw and plan to use it almost exclusively over my Festool Carvex.. for what i do with a jigsaw, which is usually never a finish cut and typically only used for small portions of the total job, i think the cordless is going to be soooo much more convenient.     if you are using your jigsaw for long extended periods of time then cordless might not be for you as i think they are fairly power hungry but if it is just used intermittently and you have a mostly cordless jobsite then i would say cordless is a great option

  4. does anyone have a brushless jig saw  out yet?

like Chris said, the Festool Carvex is and Makita has a new Brushless jigsaw.. only top handle for the makita in the US but you can snag a barrel grip Makita from Canada which is what i did

I have only used it on one quick little job so far and i can say it was super nice not having to drag out the corded to make the cut..

  5. Cheers NER. I was in need of some good levels, so finally got that covered now. Very happy with the R300's.

The digital angle finder is the new model that I only found recently on their website. Guess that will eventually finds it's way into the US...

True, Bosch makes some nice products and they have a nice range, but yeah, I like my yellow ;)

I have a DeWALT crossline laser and prefer to keep 'my brand' for a rotary laser. Although the Stabila's are really really nice. Especially with their premium receiver.

Never heard of PLS outside the States. Will wait to see what DeWALT comes up with and then decide.

come on.. be honest with yourself :)    your name is Mr. Yellow... i think you have already decided!!  haha

Ill admit, i dont keep all one brand across every tool but i do like to keep consistent brands for types of tools..  all one 18v cordless.. 90% one in corded, all one for nail guns, all one for lasers, all one for levels ect.....

  6. im a little late to this party but ill make my comments anyway..

I have the M12 right angle drill and it unfortunately is one of my least favorite M12 tools...   I dont want to say it is a bad tool, and to be honest after watching that old TIA review of the M18 i may have been using it with no regards to the clutch setting which explains some of my frustrations with it.

I really dont like the trigger for driving screws.. for drilling small holes it is fine but it has some sort of a soft start which makes feathering the screw into its final resting place difficult.. it takes a second for the drill to come u to speed and have full power..

Ive really always thought that it was very underpowered and had way to sensitive of overload protection but that could have been my inability to adjust the electronic clutch correctly...

i mostly grab my Milwaukee right angle adapter, its cheaper, more compact and so small that you have no reason not to just throw it in with your normal drill and always have it with you.    I have been through a few of them, the milescraft, which looks a lot like the dewalt to me, and also the chrome milwaukee one Madman posted.. i wasnt happy with either of those and ended up with the more expensive milwaukee model   http://www.ebay.com/itm/Milwaukee-49-22-8510-Heavy-Duty-Compact-Right-Angle-Drill-Attachment-Kit-/370994343280

this one works like a charm and is as solid as a rock!!  its built really well

  7. ooooooh boy.. now you gone and done it!!!    how dare you take the crown from Makita!?!?!   just kidding... kinda :)

no doubt the Metabo crushed that run time test.. it was unreal actually..   BUT..    let me make an argument if i may :)

    1. dock the Metabo 1 point for having a easy to accidentally engage clutch and/or being the most expensive in the test..  hell, dock it 2 points for all i care! haha

    2. add one extra point to the makita for having the largest, most complete line of cordless tools and im guessing the longest running battery platform.

    3. somehow squeak a point in there for makita for being the fastest in every test!!.

There it is guys. Makita winner :)... if you want to push the makita over the top we could always turn that crazy 8 out of 10 in the comfort score into a 9 and we have a solid Makita winner!!!!

I hope you know im not actually picking your review apart at all ;)   all in good fun,   im really just being a sore loser  LOL

in all honesty, like i said before, great review and testing.. it speaks a lot about you guys that you went back and retested tools to make sure your information was as accurate as possible..   Nice work!

  8. i'm with you Rego,

use common sense and avoid obvious and real dangers as best as you can but there is no sense living in paranoia about the harmful effects of everything around you .. were all going to be brain dead from cell phones one day anyway  :P

it would be nice if manufacturers would do the ethical thing and avoid using materials that obviously harmful and where a suitable replacement exists.. thats a hard one to judge and enforce though

  9. Im with a lot of the other people on here... ive seen them plenty of time, even been intrigued but have always been skeptical of how well they would actually work..  i guess ill pick up a pack next time im at the depot and give them a try.

  10. then we gonna see another unboxing and review vid from NER :D

did you do one chris from your grizzly?

I havent been able to put together any vidoes lately as i had hoped i would because ive just been crazy with work and life.. things should be getting back to normal this week and hopefully i can make a quick video when it shows up!!   ive got a few videos planned that i would like to get to!

  11. Awesome stuff NER! Can't wait to hear your thoughts. I just had the new box added in my shop and I'm almost done with lighting so I'll give my honest opinion on the machine soon but I'm really happy for ha dude! That is awesome customer service. I will be buying from these guys again.

Yeah, in my opinion they went above and beyond there..   i was going to but i really didnt want to wait till the end of june!

ive always been intrigued by grizzly but never had the need for stationary equipment.. if and when i do they will definetly get a stronger consideration with customer service like that and ill even browse them for smaller items in the future.     im sure you will get your up and running before i do so ill also be interested in what you have to say about it

  12. Thanks U NER and tea I'm gonna save some money for a new blower I'm thinkin the 20v one from DeWalt but if another deal shows up it's hard to resist :}

i feel ya man!  a good deal is a very dangerous thing for the wallet :)  haha       be strong!!!

  13. those super powerful magnetic attachments are great!  they hold screw like nothing else.

the shockwave phillips bits are the weak link of that set, they aren't bad but they just round out a little faster than others.. everything else should be perfect for you.. looks like you have phillips covered with the dewalt bits anyway so your good to go!   nice choices!!

  14. heat is a very good thing, especially after this winter!!    the weather is just starting to get decent where im at.. we have had a few days into the 40's which is like tropical compared to what it has been!!!

    nice heater

  15. Really cool!   one hell of a setup..

seems like you have a little bit of every vehicle in there to learn on from new to old, cars to trucks, foreign to domestic...

what exactly are you going for?  auto body, mechanic, work for a specific dealer/car company, own your own shop, race team, custom??

I never went beyond high school auto class myself but have swapped several engines and transmissions in my garage, done a little bit of body work and tons of repairs and mods.. i have always loved cars/trucks.. hell anything with an engine for that matter :) and really enjoy working on them as a hobby..    i havent gotten to do much of that lately though

  16. thanks Mr. Yellow,   Nice haul yourself!   i havent upgraded any of my Stabilas to the R Beams yet but they sure are tempting!  That digital angle finder is quite nice also.. we dont have that guy in the US

I know Bosch isnt the right color for you but they make some nice lasers.. I have the GLL3-80 and it is excellent for my needs.. also they just came out with the GLL2-20 and at around $250 usd for a 360 laser that has got to be the best bang for your buck in the world of self leveling, lockable 360 lasers..     you could always paint it yellow :D       as far as quality lasers go, its hard to beat Stabila or PLS which conveniently happen to be the correct color!!

  17. Samuel, these are for any sort of precision layout work..   joinery, layout lines parallel to the edge of your work piece, locating things like hinges and other hardware etc..   the t-square aspect of them also allows you to make perpendicular marks on your work piece up to the length of the tool..

many of the same features that you would use a combination square for but having the fixed holes removes an additional degree of human error when parallel marking
