  1. Another benefit to brushless motors is the timing can be adjusted through the speed controller. In the RC world you can plug your electronics into you computer and look at the data logs and set parameters. You can set stuff like soft start, brakes, timing, etc. with the timing you can advance to get more power or retard to get longer run times. There are cards or thumb drives that you can use at the field to program.

There is no reason tool manufacturers couldn't setup this for our tools.

Brushes are the timing for brushed motors.

Personally i think that is what Milwaukee one key will be about. Programming your tool motor from your smart phone.

The Makita director of Japan had also let it known on the Makita 100 year anniversairy event that that is some thing that are working on.

  2. For every mitre saw/power tool you can find bad reviews. Thats the thing about people and internet. People are more likely to spew negatieve comments then say some thing positieve of course :)

Not having the ls0714 anymore is top bzd. That was a decent compact saw. The newer ls08.. Cannot compared to that one nor was it meant to.

Its of course easy to dismiss positieve reviews/ comparisons as ' paid adds' and then talk about ' do research online and you find negatieve reviews and problems'

Thats abit thesame thing aint it ?

I have sold the ls1216 alot in the last 5 years and havent had issues with it. Only happy customers really.

Wel no tool had to be perfect for everyone of course. There is always Bosch or dewalt who also make very good mitre saws !

  3. Hmmm there was this really big 22 inch mitre saw comparizon on toolboxbuzz i believen some weeks ago.

They were impressed by the ls1216. Found it one of the most powerfull 12 inchers around because of its direct drive motor and you complain about its power?

The bevel settings all have very positive stops without any wiggle. Just tried it out myself.

And the ls08... Was never ever designed as a replacement for the ls0714 you mentioned. The ls0714 is a professional very good machine.

The ls08.. That came out recently was designed on price and is not meant for the Carpenter/tradie.

You just need to accept that tools are made on different price points for different people. Brands need to diversify their lineup to get into other brackets of the market.

The ls0714 is still available if you want a kick ass small little saw.

If price is your main point: get the cheaper ls08...

  4. Because the current 12V batteries/tools do not feature the electronics that provide protection from over heating, over discharging the batteries and overload protection for the battery / tool.

The 'old' 12V batteries  / tools did not have enough terminals on them to add the electronics so.....

For the sake of newer tools, higher amperage tools, better protected toold & batteries etc... the electronic package was a needed thing  (  Just like dewalt had to change from stem to slide packs to get the electronics in their tools.  Or the Milwaukee change from V18 to the M18 lithium packs to get the electronics in.   Or the reason why some older Makita tools can't fit the newer 4.0 and 5.0 amp batteries. ( Old tools do not have the neccesary electronics in them to let the 4.0 and 5.0 protection circuits do their job ))

Electronic package adds more terminals so the tool and battery can talk with each other.

Changing the connection so older tools/batteries won't fit anymore is a bitch.    Being unable to produce newer, safer, stronger and better protected tools is even more of a bitch.

    Thus a change is necessary
