The star protection are the Electronics.
Lets face it. Dewzlt calls it 'xr'
Milwaukee calls it ' red lithium '
Makita calls it ' lxt with star protection'
Its all thesame crap in a different colored casing
All Brands use thesame lithium 18650 cells in their batteries.

It's odd to me how a lot of the top of the line stuff gets released overseas and takes forever to make its way to the states... Any particular reason?
Personally i believen it is because of profit matgins. Power tools are very much more expensive over here in the EU then they are in Amerika.
As a company, if you just reasearched and produced a new tool, i suppose it is logical that you first sell it in large margin countries

Took Makita quite a while to add gauges to their battery line. Better late than never :-)
Yesh ! Now the 6 amp and beyond batteries that the Makita director spoke off and were good

Yeah thats a hard thing for me to understand. It hzs low torque specification but it pretty much does everything our regular impacts do. A tad slower perhaps

Supposedly by november
5.0amp with battery gauge BL1860B
4.0amp with battery gauge BL1840B
2.0amp compact battery with gauge BL1820B

Ask your stihl dealer to show you how to do the Valve adjustments. It's an easy 5 minute job you can do yourself really

Or bosch to bring out a Brushless monster of a beast !

Technically the M18 Fuel impact still has more power. I am envious of the Makita's cute size though
. On the drill side of things, the ball will be back in Makita's court in the fall when I get a 2704 in my hands haha. Then the never ending game of one-up will continue. Speaking of one-up, isn't it Team Yellow's turn to be best-in-class yet? Come on Dewalt!
True !
BUT in 99 % of all impact driver use the impacts per minute or rpm's are more important then the torque really. You will never notice that 5 newtons more of torque. those few extra hundred of rpm really make this the best impact out there at the moment =p

Nice dude, way to conqour the garage with these tools. I really like your badass Milwaukee corded sawzall, I am guess that thing has about 10-amps of raw cutting power, HAHA
And don't ask me why but that Makita looks more cute then anything else lol
Looking Cute AND kicking M18 Fuel impact Ass at thesame time
Just Jesting Proto !

Milwaukee one key will allow US to control our power tools from out cellphones. Setting the speed/torque. Control the soft start/ control the brake./ etc...
Thats my guess

Makita is gonna release updated versions of their Brushed Compact drills/impact drivers.
http://www.makita.biz/product/category/cordless/ddf482_dhp482_dtd152/index_f.html#1
The newer DDF482 will replace the DDF456
The DHP482 will be replacing the DHP456
and the impact driver DTD152 will be replacing the DTD146.
These models have higher torque and higher rpm's then their older counterparts and also feature a shorter head lenght.
Maybe coolest of all: These will be the first tools shipped with the Makita batteries with a battery indicator on there. =)
i'm thinking of the pricing is right these make for a good step up between Makita's Brushed DIY drill DDF453 and the brushless models like DDF480.

Because of the fugly form of it. If you hold it upside down you can shoot nails very close to the floor.
It works good but the weight imbalance is annoying

The jigsaw and brushless impact are already out in the EU so it shouldnt be too long before they make their way to the USA ?

Thanks, man! I can't believe I missed this!
You're welcome ! Quite the interesting read ^^

Hmmm i dont see why so many people think brushless motors will be less durable then brushed engines.
Brushless engines have been in use for more then 30 years and just in situations where durable long lasting motors were needed.
Industrial applications/ the rc world / the motors in your CD ROM drives/playstation back in the nineties where all brushless motors
And brushless motors have been around in power tools faaaaar longer then most of you think.
Before the ' fuel ' line ever existed Makita had brushless tool for years.
The first brushless power tools were introduced by Makita in their defence and aerospace contracts. Production facilities where the best of the best was needed in efficiency/ weight/ size and durability.
These were very expensive production tools not available for contractors in stores. Powered by nicd and nihm batteries back in those times.
In 2009 Makita has that brushless technology trickle down to the first ever brushless power tool available for contractors in the form of an pact driver.
This brushless engines in power tools even have a history
they have been around linger then lithium ion batteries in power tools !!!

And if bosch's older brushed engines have proven anything it is that they got the ' runtime ' thing worked out !

Bosch's 12v are very compact and light.
In comparison i think m12 fuel is ( in power and size/Wright) more like the very compact 18v sized tools
Correct me if im wrong Gents!

My makita cordless collection, Not pictured (2) xdt09 impacts, brushless rotary hammer w/ dust vac, XPH07T, XWT02z, xtd08, XLT01z, new makita flood light, (2) finish sanders, DS4011 spade handle drill, XAG03m, DC18RD charger, 5007MGA circular saw, X2 7-1/4" circular saw, and XMR03 multi-tool. image.jpg image.jpg
Damn thats a nice collection! Angled impact driver! Not one you see any day
But a life saver in certain situations !
The Makita guys will like this a video of the new 23 gauge micro pinner

There is just not really much inside a battery pack really.
Only difference you'll find is that for example Bosch had put most Electronics into their tools and not in the batteries. Milwaukee had put most of the Electronics in their battery packs and less in the tools.Makita had split it up between the tool and the battery.
But it is always there !![:)](//toolsinaction.s3.us-east-2.amazonaws.com/emoticons/default_smile.png)
