  1. in all the years owning chop saws I cant think of one time I would need a cordless large chop saw. if it needs the capacity then it needs the power.

there have been countless times when a cordless small saw would have been used over a big saw. usually cutting slips and mouldings

I don't know if 12 volts is enough but they could use 2 batteries or and 18volt.

  2. I don't know if the m 12 would be powerful enough to run a chop saw. if they are making a skill saw then it could work.

I don't think there would be a big market for a 12volt chop saw. but it would be one of those tools that would be handy for small jobs.

I have a small dewalt non slider that I use for wooden ceilings and mouldings etc. its great , good dc, small,

if someone made a small chop saw  for their battery platform I would buy it. I know dewalt have one on the way and Makita have one for a while but they are big saws. I would like a saw that fit in a festool systainers or dewalt tough box etc. if it cut a 4x2 I would be happy

  3. I think it about time that  dewalt upgraded their lasers to use their 10.8 v batteries (or higher)

I have their 3 line self levelling laser. it great. paid for itself 10 times

the problem is the batteries. they are usually flat or die half way through the job.

I wish they had rechargeable batteries  ,.if they were compatible with the drills etc I would usually have a charged one at hand

    come on dewalt

  4. I was talking with my dealer yesterday. he says dewalt have no plans to have a cordless sander and planer. that's what the rep told him.

he said the nail gun will be here in august . so happy days

looks like I can start creating a Makita line up

first up would be the 36volt saw. then the sander and planer

hopefully when the slack start of the year is over I can buy all before me

  5. that looks like a great tool./ I have one of the older models.

I think its great. I only use it for a quick hole here or there mostly. usually when its not worth setting up a corded tool or if there is no power close at hand

I used it on site a while back installing dado trunking (the plastic boxing that sparkies use in offices  to run cables and mount boxes in)

I was only using 6mm plugs but putting them every 12"along it . I was very surprised at the run time. when im doing that again I wont hesitate to use it again

  6. I don't think it would eat batteries.

it would be like a skill saw  or  jig saw. they can sun for a long time  constantly working.

my dewalt jigsaw runs for ages on a 4ah battery.

with a brushless motor and 5ah battery I would think the run time would be good.

It wouldn't surprise me to see a trim router out in Makita shortly. they have to try and keep their title of the most tools .

judging my their 36 volt saw using 2 18 volt batteries I think a 1/4inch plunge router would work.

you have to realise that a cordless router would only be for small jobs where its not worth the time to set up a corded one

  7. I know it would ruin the surprise  so to speak but I think it would help with organising tool purchases .

lets say you want a laminate trimmer to speed up your operation but don't need it now. if you new that a new model or a cordless model was coming in 6 months time. I know I would wait.

  8. hi there.

im considering expanding my cordless line. I have dewalt tools but am considering Makita as well.

I currently have 4  4 ah batteries. and 7 tools for them.

im going to buy the dewalt  cordless multi tool.

you can buy it here with 2 2 ah batteries and charger and accessories etc. or a bare tool .

because im expanding the no of tools im considering adding more batteries. I might not use all the power every day but it will save swapping tools.

what im wondering is what would you think is a better step forward

buy one  4ah(or 5ah) separately and the bare unit

or buy the set with the 2 2ah batteries

if I need long run time I can use one of my 4 ah s  or use one of the 2 2ah on a tool that doesn't need a higher ah battery . this would give me 6 batteries in 8 tools instead of 5.

it should reduce swopping around of batteries

    what do you think

    thanks alan

  9. thanks Chris.

im really torn. last week I had to plane a few doors in a big old office building that was being moved into that were not fitting correctly . nothing major but it took longer to set up the cable and planer than it did to plane the door. you know the craic a door here  another upstairs , 2 downstairs, one on the shed etc. a cordless planer would have saved me  an hour or more finding sockets and moving around . I then had to sand any sharp edges off. another job a cordless sander would have saved a lot of hand sanding ( I wasn't setting up my festool sander and vac just for that

  10. hi there.  my name is alan

im a carpenter but do a wide variety of home improvement jobs.

I currently have bought into the dewalt 18 volt line and have

    drill

    impact

    angle grinder

    sds

    jigsaw

    vacuum cleaner

    1st fix nailer

    4  4 ah batteries

    2 chargers

I would like to own more of the dewalt gear like the multi tool, 90 degree drill, radio ,lights, skill saw, usb charger, recip saw, 2nd fix nail gun when its out, and probably a few I forgot

I occasionally work on sites where power is very limited or non existent. usually sparks are rearranging so its disconnected . some times they turn it on and off so I wouldn't trust the power not to ruin my batteries

I have used a 4 of my 4 ah batteries in one day

I have enough now but if I buy more tools I will need more batteries

I have been thinking that if I buy into Makita's 18 volt line I could buy even more tools

like the sander, planer,36volt skill saw and 36volt sds that use 2 18volt batteries and a few extra

if I bought into the Makita 18 volt line and bought 4   5ah batteries  and 2 chargers or a double charge

I could buy the Makita specific tools and some of the ones I would buy from dewalt. this would keep the batteries in use when im not using some of the more specific tools.

I might also buy an impact +drill set (to get the batteries  and tools cheaper ) and use those instead of the dewalt ones. that would leave my dewalt batteries out of the impact most of the time and allow me to use them on other tools

    what should I do

I am at the point that if I buy more dewalt tools I need more batteries  so im not swapping all the time.

I worked out the cost roughly and its about the same which ever way I go.

I would end up with more tool choices going with both but then I need two chargers have to think about what is where etc.

then there is  bosch  think about great tools but  missing a few key tools to win me over

then Milwaukee, great tools but most of their line up is for plumbers or mechanics

    what would you recommend

    thanks alan
