  1. From my similar thread.

The 709 is designed as a budget level 12" SCMS.  It has a lower cross cut capacity(12x16 for the 780, 12x14 for the 709), lower crown capacity (7 1/2 vs 5 1/2), no XPS lighting, and is 16 lbs lighter (more aluminum / plastic in the construction).  The deck is smaller on the 709 as well.

I don't think that the 709 is a bad saw at all, but you have to remember what it's good at.  All 12" SCMS are not equal.  The lower priced models (i.e. the 709) are not going to be as good at cutting big stock as the higher end models.  If you can live with cutting 2x10s and 5 1/2" of crown clearance, the 709 looks to be a very nice saw, just don't expect it to beat out or really even have the same features / capacity as the 780.  I think a lot of the bad reviews are more related to unrealistic expectations than a bad product.

All that having been said, the 779 seems to be new - I've never seen that one before but the specs seem to make it look like the 780 without the XPS system.  I couldn't find any reviews so if that's important, you may want to hold off on that one.

  2. No. I didn't need to send them in. There is nothing wrong with the tools. I attempted to register for LSA online. They reviewed my submission and came back and said some were approved. Others weren't. The ones that were not approved required me to mail in the original receipt. Then they'll get back to me.

  3. I have had some random bump backs in the last couple months. It's really irritating. One that really gets me is 1 of 3 on the same receipt got bumped back. I bought a jobmax, a battery/charger and rotating tool attachment. The jobmax battery and charger got approved but the attachment didn't.

I hope printed copies of email copies of receipts are good enough.

  4. I Got that Bosch in January when it first came down to $119. Great kit. Lots of sandpaper.

I already had a couple dremel omts and the Milwaukee m12 version. The Bosch is great. It has great power and a long cord which is helpful.

That dremel multi knife comes the the dremel 13 (?) piece accessory kit the put out around Christmas at Home Depot. It should be down to $29 still if your local store has it. The knife is not in the 9 pc accessory kit that also costs $29 at Home Depot.

  5. You have to use the in store computer. Lots of ridgid tools are on clearance the new blower and sander for some reason. I think they might be around for only a short time. The Ego trimmer is marked down also to 100 and something. I'm waiting for it to go cheaper. The Bosch axial glide was down to 329 but they are out of stock now :( it sat at the same price for awhile.

I knew the blower was dropping. I haven't seen the sander in a stand alone kit (just with the light). What others are looking good?

  6. RIDGID LSA is based on the 17 yr old that works the front desk at the warranty department at your closest authorized service centre on a Saturday morning when he don't want to be there........either you get a new tool no questions asked or he writes down abuse cause it didn't work and it was dirty....

That wasn't my experience at all. I had a battery from a nailer die. I went to the tool rental counter. They checked the battery was indeed dead. I had the nailer and charger with me. They confirmed the battery was registered and called in the replacement. They sent me a replacement in the mail which showed up the next week. I called and registered the replacement.

    Seemed easy to me.

  7. Phew this was a big day.

Ridgid gen5x brushed drill and drill impact kits have even better prices

    Random bits from other brands

They also look to be clearing out Makita forstner and router bits, and Fein annular cutters so watch for prices and stock to drop if you're interested.

The ridgid brushless hammer drill and brushed gen5x combo kit are excellent.  And the first "random bit" is a dremel mm45 3.5 amp multi max with a quick change lever.   I own all of these so I can't take advantage.  But they are all quality tools at a great price.

  8. I really like the finish on it. It's not bad at $30, I mean my Colts and S&W were $35-40 12-15 years ago. My Kershaw (Spring assisted) was $50 12-15 years ago also.

BTW, I was browsing knives last night after I posted this. It seems that H&K has some reasonably priced knives (Under $40) that are made in the USA. I was looking at Smoky Mountain Knife Works website. Link: http://www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/products/Heckler%26amp%3BKoch/Heckler+and+Koch+P30+Assisted+Opening+-+SerratedBlack/HK6000008SBT.html

The H&K axis and axis mini (though closer to $100) is a great folder. D2 steel, g10 handles and pillar construction for easy cleaning is great.
