  1. People tend to take much better care of their tools when they have to supply their own.

I suppose you could keep costs down by giving employees a tool stipend and a list of required tools. Then they're less likely to throw a $100 piece impact into the dirt.

  2. Hand tools are kept fairly clean, not saying I've never used my drill bottom for a hammer though

I won't use my 78" level for a level, but I admit using my older 78" level to tamp dry concrete when setting a fence post.

Anyone else have a confession/concession to make?

  3. I use my tools for work. I specialize in home repair.

I don't Baby them, but I do try to take care of them. If it's raining hard, I try to put them under cover. They get dirty, muddy, and used. They don't get cleaned other than maybe getting blown off with my cordless blower.

When they break I replace them. Then I sell the broken ones on eBay. Some people apparently have time to waste on broken things.

I own my tools. They do not own me.

At work, I use the proper tools for the task at hand, the fewer tools, the better. The jobsite is not the place to find a task for an obscure tool.

Like I said earlier, I own my tools. They do not own me.

  4. If your work is primarily outside with decks and fences, I would go cordless. Dust generally isn't a concern outside.

If you use the cordless inside, you can use power and have some kind of dust collection system rigged up.

  5. The 273 works perfectly for tapcons. It works fine for 1/2" redheads.

In a pinch, I used it to bore a hole for a fence post in a 4" deep concrete pad. It took an hour and 3 batteries. It Would have been faster with my Bosch sds max, but due to room in the van, I don't carry that anymore.

I would think the sds max in flexvolt would be ideal. Only slightly bigger than the 273/293 but big enough for an occasional 1 1/2 hole through a foundation or a 6" hole through a pad.

  6. All those options take up a lot more space and increase the overalls size/footprint of the table saw. I want to keep it as compact as possible. I run a very lean and adaptive setup. I keep everything modular.

Lean, adaptive, and modular. You speak my language.

You're going to have to show me some pictures of the inside of your trailer.

  7. I have it, use it exclusively, not DYI, for a living.... Want brushless runtime, a small bump in power wouldn't hurt my feelings either.  Hate right blade saws.... *If* I need a 7.25 there's a worm drive in the tool trailer but I never need it.

All of the above applies to me.

Put a FV battery in your 6 1/2. Longer runtime, more power. The same goes for the 20v miter saw. More power, higher RPMs. I don't notice the weight on the circular saw, and it doesn't matter on the SCMS.

I ended up buying a pair of FV batteries for these saws after using the FV battery from my new 60v reciprocating saw.

    Game changer.

  8. I don't understand why you need a nice clean line or hole? I would make a larger hole with a concrete saw and a jack hammer rent them if need be get your footing job done and then fill the hole again with concrete to be flush with patio

It depends on the home and the homeowner. If I'm paying for a nice deck for an upper end house, it better not look like some idiot used a jackhammer and poured a sack of quikrete and didn't bother to wash off the post.

  9. You'll easily be at it 10 hours for four holes.

Contact a concrete cutting contractor. Have them use a core drill at whatever size you want.

I doubt any rental place has one, but it wouldn't hurt to find out.
