dewalt DC411 18V cutoff tool

Hi,

When I tried to install the cutting wheel that comes with the tool (4 1/2 x.045" x 7/8"  DW8062) onto the tool, the wheel wobbles after tightening. Am I missing something? The tool has the type 1 guard, and when i check the manual picture (not much explanation) of the type 1 installation pieces, there is a piece called unthreaded backing flange. I could not find this piece anywhere in the package of the tool. Can someone help to clarify this?

Secondly, I also bought separately a pack of 5 cutting wheels ( 4" x .045" x 5/8"). Does this fit the tool (i have not opened the package fearing that this is not the right wheel for this tool)?

Thank you for your help.

The backing flange should already be installed on your cut off tool. If it is in fact missing, either exchange the tool or get the part from your local service center, because without it you will not be able to use any wheels that are not hubbed (5/8x11). The backing flange is essentially just a thick washer with a centering ring on it, so when you place your wheel on the spindle, you will set the wheel against the backing flange, with the wheel recessing onto the centering ring of the flange.  If that part is there and you correctly use it, it will center the wheel for you, and you will not have any mis balancing issues.

Thank you.  I also checked with a local service center and they told me I needed to flip the threaded clamp for the flat cutting wheel. The other side is for the special tool even though the threaded clamp has a confusing mark that says 'this side against the wheel'.  You are right that the backing flange is already installed and could not even be taken off. Anyway, it is ok now. Thank you for your help.
