Conductor562
You can drop $500+ on a set of wood chisels if you want to. Harold & Saxon, Lie-Nielson, etc. can run over $100 per chisel. Marples are nice. I use Buck Bros. from HD. Affordable and USA made.

dwain
ive got the 'high impact' Irwin Marples (full tang), and boy are they nice. $90-120 in Aus! http://www.amazon.com/Irwin-Tools-1819363-Marples-5-Piece/dp/B00ABC29J2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397283902&sr=8-1&keywords=irwin+marples+chisels+impact

rtutsky
I have the Neiko 9 chisel set. While they are not considered high end chisels by any means, I am quite pleased with them. I cut a 3" through mortice in hard maple using the 1/2" chisel (mallet head) and found the chisel was still sharp afterwards. If you do a search on Amazon you will find them for under $50. The Irwin chisels are no longer produced in England and aren't as good as they used to be.
jenskolson
If you looking for good quality wood chisels but don't want to shell out $75 a pop for Lie-Neilson or Veritas, I would by Narex Chisels from Lee Valley. http://www.leevalley.com/US/Wood/page.aspx?p=67707&cat=1,41504 They are a great set of chisels. They hold an edge great and will rise to any challenge that you can throw at them. My second suggestion is to get the 4pc. set for $45 because in reality you don't need 7 different width chisels. Save the money for another tool that you would get more use/value out. IE a couple Narex mortis chisels. http://www.leevalley.com/US/Wood/page.aspx?p=66737&cat=1,41504 If I where making the purchase I would get the set of 4 bevel chisels and a 1/4" and 1/2" mortise chisel. Northern Rebel
I have used Buck Bros. , Stanley Fat Max, and Dewalt, and I liked them all. Good selection of them at Home Depot as well.
