  1. I don't have many tools to chose from, so for me to "come up short" using a drill is not acceptable, since I don't have back-ups. So, I went for a drill that wouldn't leave me wanting. I know alot of you guys have tools galore, but I'm tool poor, so I have to buy quality and power since I don't have other options to fall back on. I agree with you, it is heavy....but, I'll do a few more curls and eat my Wheaties.
  2. I had been considering the compacts vs the full size 996...I ended up going full size, just because for a few bucks more, I get more performance and I won't ever say "wish I had less power". I know it won't let me down. But, I ended up with something that is heavier than the compacts which would be a consideration if I was using it all day long. But, for the few holes I drill, I'm not too concerned about the weight. I just used it to drill 1/4" hole in steel gate latch. It went through it like butter. Pretty similar to the video. Do you think the compact will do 90% of what the average non-pro will ask it to do? Seems that way from your video.
  3. I think for the most part, pnumatic nailers are simple tools. I don't mind buying cheap. But, you start talking impact drivers, drills, saws, then I pay up. I'm glad I paid up for my dewalt drill/driver combo. I just braced my deck the other day and drove 1/4" x 4" lag bolts (about 20 of them) and the driver impressed me immensely. I charged the battery a few months ago, used it to drive these bolts, and it is still at 3 bars! Love this thing.
  4. I have put about 200 nails through it and no issues so far. And if it fails......I will put it in recycling can.
  5. I just used it today and worked great. But the Hitachi has a plastic magazine that has been known to cause alot of jams. I'm happy with my purchase and for $26 can't go wrong.
  6. I just bought this one http://www.homedepot.com/p/NuMax-Pneumatic-18-Gauge-Brad-Nailer-SBR50/202101761 But it doesn't have the no mar tip, depth control at the gun, etc. What do you guys think of it? Seems to have good reviews and for $26 I figured what do I have to lose? I also considered this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AK4CY7S/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=17O7WAJIEC4JS&coliid=IY29ARA1RP6AM and this one https://www.amazon.com/Hitachi-NT50AE2-18-Gauge-8-Inch-2-Inch/dp/B000H399PC/ref=sr_1_3?s=power-hand-tools&ie=UTF8&qid=1473983606&sr=1-3&keywords=hitachi+nail+gun
  7. Lowes is selling the DWS780 for $599 and giving you a free heavy duty stand. I'm not sure if it is the $200 stand, but if it is, you are getting the saw for only $400. Damn good deal. And the hitachi by me got sold. The only one they have is the floor model and they want $310, but it doesn't have the blade, the handle you use to move it left/right is broken, doesn't have the vise assembly or the holder attachment. You would have to spend about $90 to replace all those items. Not a good deal...I passed.
  8. After reading this thread I looked into the Hitachi C12RSH. It has really good reviews on Lowes, but it looks like they are replacing it with the C12RSH2, which is about 4 pounds lighter. One reviewer said it was cheaply made. It's hard to go by one review, but my instinct is that when a manufacturer comes out with a new model of anything without changing much, but the weight of the product drops 6%, I wonder how dropping the weight improved the product. With tools that are 50-70 years old, the common observation is that they were built like tanks and they lasted. Reducing the weight of this saw is likely not done as an "improvement" but more likely as a cost saving... I'm thinking about getting the one C12RSH I found at a store close to me. It is brand new, for $369. I see online vendors selling refurbs of this saw for $370.
  9. Love the impact bits. The impact driver can do most of what a homeowner needs.
  10. Which of the magnetized bit extensions do you guys prefer? I need to buy a 6" and 8" extensions for the impact driver. Must be magnetized. I know alot of guys like the Makita one, but I can't find it in a 6". Thanks
  11. I don't think the deals are on the newest/best tools. They are usually on tools that came out a few years ago.
  12. I bought something and no issues. But it was only $30 and the seller had great ratings. What is the tool?
  13. Anyone leave reviews on DeWalt.com? I did recently, got a confirmation...checked and saw that the review was up. Then a few days later, there is no review. Trying to figure out why??? It was a positive review, so not sure why they wouldn't keep it.
  14. I love mine and I only used it a couple of times. Can't wait to re-do my deck.
  15. Regular price is $400 at acme, I had a sitewide 10%, so, $360 delivered. Not bad when you consider the previous kit I had was a compact drill with the same impact driver and a contractor bag was $300 from homedepot. I got a much better drill, 5Ah batteries and the hard case for only 60 more. Can't beat that with a stick.
  16. DCD996 and DCF887
  17. I got my combo kit (DCK299P2 with DCD996 and DCF887) the other day and all I can say is WOW. I put the drill in hammer mode and went to work on a brick. I was able to drill through it like I was going through wood. I found the drill and 5Ah battery combo to be a little heavy for all day or overhead use, but I don't have a comparison against another product in the same class. Overall I really like this kit. I like that it comes with a hard case and the 5Ah batteries. Love the impact driver. I like that it has 3 settings to go from very gentle to beast mode. And the price was decent on acmetools with a 10% discount. I broke the bank and bought the DCF899HB also. A few months ago I struggled to get a few lug nuts off my car that had been put on too tight and rusted on. Took me 30 minutes to get one nut to come off after lots of hammer strikes and liquid wrench. I was fed up and decided to never have the shop rotate my tires for me again. But, with 4 cars to maintain I HATE rotating tires, its such a chore. Got the 899 and went to work, it makes life so much easier. I hope with this in hand, I will be more likely to rotate my tires and get more life out of them. Of course, I don't have a long term use review but out of the box, all three tools are great. One thing I would like to see is a better battery fit. It rattles a little. The speed change toggle on the drill is a little temperamental, but not that big of a deal for me. If you are on the fence about either of these tools, pull the trigger! You won't regret it.
  18. Is that a function of the chuck or the transmission? In other words, if you went to an after market chuck, would you be able to get the same action as the older DeWalt? Anyone know which (brand) chuck comes on the 996? I thought it was Jacobs (?)
  19. Do you guys trust battery sellers on ebay? Alot of them say "new battery taken from kits....". They don't come with factory packaging. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEWALT-20V-20-Volt-Max-Lithium-Ion-Battery-2-0-AH-Packs-Model-DCB203/361568344757?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36541%26meid%3Da09a4cd7ba434d1da4c066cc9b52cb8e%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D331675908447 How is it that these people get so many batteries out of kits? They all have good ratings, but it just seems too good to be true.
  20. Love how fast these drills get through the tough tasks. My new DeWalt kit (DCK299P2) should be arriving in a week. I already have a few concrete drilling tasks for the big boy.
  21. Nice, I was just at HD (twice today actually) and did not look at the cases.
  22. I'm not sure how critical it is. I intend to take this tool with me on long road trips, and thought that it might be safer in a hard plastic case rather than the bag. The bad would be smaller and wouldn't cause hardship when trying to pack the trunk for the trip. I just don't want to damage the tool somehow in a soft bag.
  23. As the title says, I need to buy a case for the DCF899HB. I think its crazy DeWalt doesn't sell these tools with hard plastic cases. It would cost them next to nothing to do that...heck, charge me a few extra bucks, instead, I have to run around and try to figure out which case will fit this monster. By the way, there is a $20 off $100 spent on DeWalt tools. So, I guess I will be putting in a couple of orders soon. Thanks
  24. Looks like Milwaukee has 2 https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/cordless/2663-22 https://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-tools/cordless/2763-22 Quickly scanning them, it looks like the second one has more breakaway?????
  25. Not sure about 18v, but based on my research the DeWalts DCF899 is pretty well rated. I will be getting this one, hoping for a good Father's day sale. I thought Makita had a good one too. I had seen it at $500, but just now found it at about the same price as Dewalt.
