comp56
Quote The Janka hardness test measures the resistance of a sample of wood to denting and wear. It measures the force required to embed an 11.28 mm (.444 in) steel ball into woodto half the ball's diameter. This method leaves an indentation.
Turner85
Good to know this. I just put up a mahogany door today which I found really soft on the tools. It must be the African mahogany on the chart

Claeg
My house is made mainly of heart pine(1225 ibf) joist with true 1' x 5' Flooring. The roof is cedar for some reason, as well as the original trim pieces. A few years ago felled a large Osage Orange. It was awful on the chainsaw I used, little did I know it has a hardness of 2040. I saved some of the wood because it is very orange. So maybe I'll use it to accent something one day.
