Hi everyone,

I'm about to start a big job where we're swapping old roof shingles for new, lighter ones on a bunch of houses. We've got to cut them to fit around things like skylights and vents.

I'm looking for advice on the best tools for the job. Need a good shingle cutter for the main work and maybe a handy multi-tool for the tricky bits. Also, can't decide between air-powered or battery nail guns for working on lots of roofs.

Would love to hear what tools you guys trust the most, especially any that make the work go faster. If you know any cool tools that help out a lot, please share.

I have extensive experience as a roofer and worked for multiple years for a roofing company, later me and my friend decided to leave our jobs and say good bye to these coporate jobs to start our own business consisting of roofing and gutter cleaning services as my friend worked for 4 years at gouttiere saint jerome and he as extensive experience of gutters and i have in roofing so thats how we start growing our new business and today we are more satisfied then our jobs.

If i was in your boat, a good shingle cutter is essential, I recommend the Malco Shingle Cutter or the Qualcraft Shingle Cutter as they make cutting shingles quick and precise. For the tricky bits around skylights and vents, a cordless multi-tool like the Dewalt DCS355 with a variety of attachments is very versatile and works well for tight spaces.

As for nail guns, both air powered and battery powered have their pros. Battery powered options like the Paslode F325R offer great mobility and ease of use without needing an air compressor, which is perfect for working on multiple roofs. However, if you're looking for consistent power and speed, an air-powered nail gun can be a great choice but requires more equipment (compressor, hoses).
