Purchased a used DWS 780 Type 1. Saw is in need of some minor fixes, repairs, upgrades. Appreciate any input from anyone who has experience with this saw or similar model.

Hello fellow Dewaltians,

I’m a DIY hobbyist and I’m always on the lookout for affordable upgrades online and came across the beauty pictured in this post.  I currently have a 10 inch Hitachi that has treated me well for 5 years, but I’m just limited with what I’m able to cut due to the smaller size as well as cuts that are always a degree off in each direction of the y and z axes, no matter how hard I try to tune her up.

The fella getting rid of this saw was asking $200, I offered $150, he gave it to me for $125 since I drove an hour the next day to pick it up. He was a nice guy, up front and honest that the handle was missing all of the screws, but it seemed too good a deal to pass up over 7-8 screws and a missing carrying handle. Also, the power supply for the light is missing, but he did provide me with the actual light that works, just not installed, and an additional Switch Trigger.  So, long story long, I need the screws for the handle (tried to figure those out from looking at the exploded diagrams online and I think I figured it out? But each screw is like $5… adds up quick), a light power supply, and potentially a carrying handle.

I’ve cut with the saw several times already and she’s a real beauty, but the wiring work that is going on within my handle doesn’t resemble anything that I’ve seen online. When I watch “New Switch Trigger” or “New Light” installation videos for my model on YouTube, there is way less wiring, connections, and clutter going on within their handles and it makes me a bit uncomfortable as I’m just absolutely trash at anything regarding electrical work. For anyone who’s used this model is it worth it to have someone install the light and consolidate the wiring situation I have going on in my handle right now?

Any feedback is appreciated and thanks for letting me join in on this community.  I feel the best way to learn is from those who have real firsthand knowledge and experience with whatever field, tools, or studies it is that you’re looking to get into.

Final note, I’m aware I can say “screw it, I’m bolting this sucker down and let’er rip!”, but I am attempting to move up from simple weekend projects to some more complex, quality furniture level builds that are going to require more capacity as well as really accurate cuts and I would rather just get this saw “right”. Of course that will involve getting the saw completely lined up and squared away, which I do feel comfortable doing on my own with the help of the almighty YouTube.

Thanks again,
Tanner
