Porkncheese
Hi does anyone have any experience with hitachi.I bought a cordless combo 18v hammer drill, impact wrench and 5" grinder. I chose hitachi cos they have the best cordless 5" in my opinion. Made for single hand operation unlike most others.Firstly is the battery charger ment to b this loud. I know it has a cooling fan but boy is it loud. The hammer drill now emits blue arcs and smells like its burning. It also makes this horrible noise. I only bought it 2 weeks ago. What should I expect from customer service?Replacement or?
DR99
It could just be the brushes wearing in on the drill, but I would be on the safe side and contact customer service. Also welcome to the TIA forum. I know some people around here have more experience with Hitachi power tools than me.
Porkncheese
Thank you DR99.Also the grinder has a heap of vibration compared to a normal power grinder. Is this normal?Being in the metal trade I don't have much experience in cordless tools. They had always lacked the power until recently. Its the first time ive bought hitachi power tool. How they deal with my hammer drill now will determine my view of Hitachi

DR99
Is the wheel secured properly? It sounds like you got a bad kit possibly. Maybe it got banged around really bad from shipping. I wouldn't want you to be stuck with tools your not happy with when the return policy is over.
Conductor562
Where did you buy the tools? Lowe's perhaps? Given that they're only 2 weeks old, I'd return them to the store. As for the grinder, have you ascertained that everything is assembled properly? The tool-less guards can get off kilter during assembly sometimes. ChrisK
I used to have the Hitachi 18v hammer drill kit.mot was actually a really good kit.It was the DV18DBL. Really powerful, wasn't as "put together" as the Milwaukee or Dewalt but it was actually a decent drill. The battery used to rattle around in the slide but never got loose. Just little things. The chick was awesome and it had EIGHT speeds! Outside of that not too much experience with the cordless stuff. I just got rid of my Hitachi 5" random orbit sander and the dust collection was atrocious but it was a decent sander.
ChrisK
Also what Conductor says....replace it. Spend a little more and go for Dewalt or Milwaukee. I'd give Bosch a go too if you bought it at Lowes.
Porkncheese
Thanks guys. We dont have Lowes in Australia but I will return it on monday and see what happens. As for the other makers, few have practical grinders. Milwakee make you flick a switch and pull on this awkward lever and the dewalt is set up like a 9". Neither can b used with one hand very well if at all. I found Bosch and Metabo have nice grinders for metal workers. The rest don't seem like they've really given it much thought yet
chadlanthier
My dewalt did the same when I bought it, was told its normal. Chemicals used for long shelf life.

I've not had it but a couple weeks now, but thus far I'm very impressed. I can't say it has the power of an 11 or 13 amp electric model, but it's as good or better than any of the 7-9 amp models I've had.
