Good Idea, has he does have a 20v Drill Driver and 20v Impact Driver. My only reason for thinking of the 12v model is the price difference, and if it would be powerful enough.

I did have a look at the Milwaukee line, and that might be a consideration for an Impact Wrench.  That being said, it does not have to be DeWalt, I just want to get him some sort of Impact Wrench, has he is really enjoying working on vehicles.

It really does me proud, to watch him work on his vehicle, has he figures out what is wrong, and how to resolve the problem.

I have the Milwaukee fuel 3/8 impact and it has performed flawlessly for me. Since you said he already has dewalt stuff I would wait until they release the new 20v brushless 3/8 impact. It only has 150 ft lbs though. If you have deep enough pockets I would get him the new ingersoll rand 3/8 that  TIA did the video on recently.

  2. Now that I've been using the impact professionally at my new job I figured I'd update you guys on how it's holding up. I've used this impact to do anything from tire rotations to brake jobs and it has worked great. once in a while I run across a stubborn lug nut that it can't remove but so long as the lug nuts were torqued the last time the car was serviced it will have no issue with them. The runtime is still incredible with a 5.0 battery, I have charged it twice since I started about a month ago. One thing I have noticed is that the fourth mode doesn't work on lug nuts but for what ever reason it will work on anything else. I'm not sure if it has something to do with aluminum wheels or what. That is the only issue I've had with the gun but if that is the only issue with it I will be pleased. It still has plenty of power and hasn't lost any since I bought it. I haven't compared it to my air 3/8 but I also haven't used it since I bought this either. I have cut the hose since I bought this impact and I doubt I will use one again for 3/8 drive.

Grabbed some new trim tools for working around on the vehicles. Maybe I can save a few clips when I remove them now instead of destroying everyone!60ce8bbbde11d0c0f738162bb6accdf2.jpg

I need to pick up some of those sometime. I also like the pliers that  goes underneath them and lifts them up. I still have my student discount with Matco until the end of the year so that should make the price reasonable or I bet there is a gearwrench version.

No this is at home. We don't have a third of that at the dealer plus for some unknown reason it is all fine thread. All of the bolts pictured are standard thread, they would be of no use at the dealer. I haven't used a standard tool in months now.

  5. We have been using these to store nuts and bolts in. We try to keep a few of each size in stock. We have 1/4 inch to 3/4 inch in various lengths in these. For screws we use either old coffee containers or the regular plastic containers.

  6. We repainted our 3 point mower for our tractor and we sandblasted it to remove the old paint and rust. A wire wheeling an angle grinder would get the same results though. For paint we used some paint from tractor supply, I think it was called Majic or something like that. We used a quart and sprayed it with a paint gun but they do have it in a spray can which would work fine for you. I'm not sure how well it keeps the grass off though, we have never worried about it.

Yeah Bosch is coming out with a brushless 12v one and already has out their super dope 18v one that is higher torque than the red one and is just itching to be in my collection if it can beat out the Metabo. I'm just pissed that Kobalt already has announced plans for a brushless grinder and DeWalt has nothing, but that's why my I'm going green with my arsenal.

I didn't know Bosch had a new compact impact wrench, do you have a link?

  8. My grandpa has an older benchtop south bend lathe that I've used some. In high school I took a metal working class and we had a few big jet lathes and we made a few things in there. If I managed to use a lathe without screwing anything up I'm sure you can too. Just go slow and take your time. I think Fazzman is a machinist, I'm sure he will be able to help.

Not to mention the 427 SCJ with overhead cams and something like a three foot timing chain. The original corvette killer.

I was just reading up on that. It had a 6 foot timing chain. If they didn't rush it that would have been a hell of a motor. Cam timing , oiling issues and they didn't beef up the block hurt it too. Imagine what nascar would have been like if they didn't ban it.

I really like how NASCAR restricts to NA cars and whatnot but I think it would be cool to have the old style rules where you basically take high HP production cars and put them on the track(preferably non-oval). I guess I can go with the GT series...but I want heavy NA cars.

I completely agree. I think nascar should go back to what it was in the 60s and 70s. They should go back to using relatively stock production cars on the track. All of the cars look the same anymore and they can't be all that different.

Without nascar back then we wouldn't have cars such as the Dodge Charger Daytona.

  11. I like drag racing and I'll go to the dirt track races from time to time. A few years ago my dad, his coworker and I went to the nostalgia drag races in St. Louis and it was an absolute blast. They had everything from your everyday street car to some historical drag cars and racers there too. They had some of the old school funny cars there and they would run about 270-280 mph in the quarter mile. You felt it in your chest when they took off. I also met tommy ivo there, he was the one who had the four engine four wheel drive dragster. He was a super cool guy to talk to. If they have the hot rod drag week there again this year I would love to go there for the day.

  12. I bought a 4.0 and a 5.0 m18 battery on eBay and they work great. I agree with jimbo and they take advantage of promotions going on and sell the extra batteries. How often do you see Milwaukee running a free battery promotion?

  13. I'd throw in a set of good jumper cables, the bigger the gauge the better. A flashlight of some sort would be good too. A cheap test light might be a good idea. My fuel pump took a dump on me a couple of years ago and I used a test light to see if it was getting power.

sears here is a dead horse as well.....what used to be a full exciting place to shop is full of echo's now won't be long..... seems like less and less as time goes on.....I think they are just selling off stock and not re stocking.....one day a liquidator will most likely come in and buy it out @10 cents on the dollar

I think you are right. My Sears keeps getting less and less inventory every time I go there. I think Sears days are numbered.
