  1. You do realize that the chuck on the dcd780 ( and all DeWALT drills) is metal. It just has a plastic sleeve for comfort.
  2. I am afraid that I am unfamiliar with "barrel grip". Could you explain further what you are looking for? What does a barrel grip look like? DeWALT has some great jig saws, but I do not know if they would fit what you're looking for.
  3. They're working on it. I understand wanting more, but there is only so much money budgeted to launching new tools each year, so they have to be careful to launch the most important ones first. (Just my interpretation, not an official DeWALT statement).
  4. There is actually a HUGE demand for this in the trades. I know not all people in the trade have exposure to the heavy commercial trades (who buy the far majority of tools every year), but the demand for this saw is immense.
  5. This vac us killer. I was able to get my hands on a few over this last year to have field tested, and every user I placed it with (who were comparing it to units that are twice the price) said that it was the best vac of that size range that they had ever used. This thing is stinking awesome!
  6. No idea why. Definitely sounds like it had a bad part in there somewhere. As far as the plastic goes, there is no plastic in the motor or transmission on DeWALT impact drivers. The new one should take care of you. Glad to hear that amazon stepped up as well..
  7. That is the compact battery, so essentially has a lot less gas in the tank. It will run the saw, but the saw will drink that battery very quickly. 18 volts is 18 volts, so the power will be the same/nearly the same, your run time per charge will just be very short. Hope that helps.
  8. Definately sounds wrong. Is the tool news or used? If it is within your free service period, it will be a free repair, and you should be good to go. Check your date code. Also, where did you buy it (what company)?
  9. It's not that the technology is too hard to figure out. DeWALT could obviously have one out next week if they wanted to commit the resources to it. It is more that there is only so much money budgeted to launch new tools each year, and they are trying to get the most important ones out first (brushless impact and drill, metal cutting circ saw, etc.). That's just my two cents, not actual information from DeWALT. Just my assumption.
  10. I think you need to find some local independent retailers/construction houses. These are the places that carry broader product lines for us, and typically have pretty competitive pricing.
  11. It is a really good drill. It is in the compact class, so it is obviously not built to perform extremely heavy applications, but for average work (screw driving, twist bits up to around 1/2", spade bits up to 1 1/2", etc, it is great. Most of the chuck complaints I have heard are not about quality, they are because it has a percussion chuck/drill, so they inherently have some movement in and out (chuck to drill body), as that is required for the percussion/hammer function to work. If you do not need or want a hammer function, get the DCD760L, same drill with a different chuck and no hammer function.
  12. I see them all the time. A lot of companies I deal with buy lots of them, its just that they seem to take care of themselves without me pushing them!
  13. what kind of deals, when exactly and where? I have not been able to find 20v bare tools in my local stores as of yet, I am looking forward to expanding my 20 v max set I love them so far , just wishing it was easier to get bare tools, You can order bare tools from anywhere that sells DeWALT, even if you don't see them in stock. Just look up the model numbers of the ones you want, and either buy them online, or order them through your distributor of choice,
  14. I don't have it, and have never used it.
  15. Yes. Two models. The high torque has been available for a couple of months, and the compact became available more recently.
  16. Charge them whenever you want to.
  17. I'm not going to respond to most of this, as it has already been covered extensively. However, it is 100% false that the 18v batteries are disco'd. The mistake was probably that you described the wrong battery.myou want a 2.4 amp/hr nickel cadmium (ni-cad). The model number in the US is DC9096. 18v is not going anywhere. If you like it, keep it. If you like the 20v, get it. Totally your choice.
  18. The blades should still be available. Call your closest service center, and they can ship them to you so that you don't have to drive that far. Don't get your old blades sharpened. If you do it will throw all of your calibrations off. Definately better off buying new ones.

    DCL040

You don't. It is a 10k hour LED. It isn't replaceable.
  20. The combo kits greater than two pieces only come with XRP batteries.
  21. Isn't that a sealed bearing on the brushless?
  22. They are the exact same drill, with the exception being that the 985 has an extra piece behind the chuck. Life of the tool will be the same.

    Torque

It hasn't launched in the US yet. Coming soon.
  24. Sounds like your material is "pinching" the blade. That is why your blade is getting hot as well. The blade that came with the saw will rip through anything, if you use the saw/have the material placed correctly. Also, if your friend is paying $50 for a 6.5" blade, he is getting beyond ripped off! Diablo's in that size shouldn't be more that $18 on the high side.
