  1. What diameter of hole are you drilling, and roughly how many holes (ten, a hundred, a thousand)? The 780 is a very capable drill, but it has a specific application range that it is designed for. My guess is that it will work perfectly for your project, but without knowing more details, I couldn't recommend it definitively. Congrats on your new purchase!
  2. I can't speak to runtime in the whole line, but I knw the hammer does. Plus, the 36v has considerably more power than 18/20v tools. Now don't get me wrong, 18/20v is the best power:weight:cost line for the far majority of users out there, but there will always be a small group who need the increased runtime and especially power of the 36v line.
  3. Buy it. It is the best unit out there, and you really can't go wrong. I have not heard of a new model in the pipeline, so you shouldn't see a new one come out right after you buy yours.
  4. 36v is not going away, purely because of what you described. There are simply certain applications that require the superior runtime and power if the 36v line. I am sorry that you are having battery issues, but I can say definitively that the cells being used are still more than adequate of the application. Something else must be going on to cause hours to fail early. I deal with a number of huge contractor companies every day who have hundreds of 36v tools each, and problems with tools and batteries are practically non-existent. Get your battery warranty replaced, and talk to the tech at the service center you go to to see if there is possibly something that you are doing that is causing them to die early. Good luck!
  5. Open the latch all the way, rotate the entire guard around the tool 180*, and pull it strait down.
  6. The backing flange should already be installed on your cut off tool. If it is in fact missing, either exchange the tool or get the part from your local service center, because without it you will not be able to use any wheels that are not hubbed (5/8x11). The backing flange is essentially just a thick washer with a centering ring on it, so when you place your wheel on the spindle, you will set the wheel against the backing flange, with the wheel recessing onto the centering ring of the flange. If that part is there and you correctly use it, it will center the wheel for you, and you will not have any mis balancing issues.
  7. Nope, all batteries carry their own warranty. You will still get a new warranty replacement.
  8. That's pretty awesome! Invention is bred from necessity!
  9. Haha, I would go with mother in law proof
  10. Build your own kit by buying the impact driver with the 4 amp hour batteries, and add a bare drill.
  11. Every tool and battery in the 20v MAX line is compatible (which is why there is no compatiblity list). So yes, the 4 amp hour batteries will fit the jig saw, or any other 20v MAX tools. Enjoy your new tools! They are really impressive!
  12. I haven't seen any fake tools, but that does not mean that they aren't out there. What you might have is a third party repaired tool. When you replace the clamshell (plastic housing) on a tool, the spaces for the DeWALT decal and id badge are blank recessed spaces. If a service center had repaired it you would see a DeWALT Product Service sticker on one side, and they would have engraved the original serial number in the tool somewhere. Anyone can order factory parts through dewaltservicenet, so that would be my first guess regarding what you have. I hope that it works well for you and you don't get burned on one of your first DeWALT purchases!

With how often you use it, absolutely.

That is really surprising. Based on your date code, you should have the Rohm pusher chuck (self tightening). If anything, the only complaint on that one is that it gets too tight. If the drill and batteries are still n good condition, you can get the chuck replaced at your local service center, or you can order one from DeWALT service net.
  15. You're not as far behind as you think. The official launch was today (product started shipping), and the press release was just last week.
  16. Mr.yellow is right. The tear out plates are adjustable on all of the DeWALT saws that I know of. In the instance that you are working on extremely delicate material, those plates can be adjusted in to zero tolerance so that there is zero "tear out" on the material. I would not worry about yours being not perfectly centered.
  17. Tool joe is pretty much right. A "hammer drill" or percussion hammer is essentially two ribbed "gears" hitting against each other (one stationary, the other spinning and connected to the bit)., whereas an sds+ or sds max rotary hammer uses an actual beat piece (heavy piece of metal pushed forward to interact with the bit). An sds+ bit is pneumaticly pushed by the beat piece being driven forward by the piston driven off of the motor, and an sds max hammer is driven by a beat piece actually striking the bit. The sds+ and max hammers function in a very similar manner, while the percussion style is completely different.
  18. Do you want wheels or not? That is what matters.
  19. Look it up on DeWALT service net. Full parts explosion, breakdown, ordering, etc.
  20. Use it until something fails. It has pop off brushes, so they will automatically pop off and stop the unit frm working before any damage is done to the armature. Grease the bit shanks now and then, check the cord and exterior of the tool for obvious damage, but other than that just use it. You can google search the model number for the owners manual, or look it up on DeWALT service net for a parts explosion of the tool.
  21. Exchange it. This will not have the same brute suction as a shop vac type vaccume strait out of the box, but is is a dust collection tool, so the point is that it maintains more than adequate suction for as long as the tank is not completely full. That being said, it should have more than enouh suction to pull a marble off the floor.
  22. Started shipping today. Should start seeing it at your local retailers soon.
  23. Yah, it's not being delayed for any kind of quality issue or anything related. It is for sale in certain European markets right now, it is just being delayed in other markets for some unrelated reasons.
