  1. Fifty bucks says if you paint it red they would sell them as fast as they can make them!

That is because red make them stronger.  Plus red adds another use, Stick it into the ground and becomes a high visibility marker.  That still only makes it 4-in-1 as far as I can see.

  2. The 1/4" has a little less pounds of torque than the 3/8"

Could that because the 1/4 head has slightly less mass than the 3/8?  Otherwise the rest is the same.

  3. Don't knock all Craftsman ratchets.  I have some "Made in USA" Craftsman V series fine tooth ratchets 1/2, 3/8 & 1/4 that I have used for over 40 years and even though I have other ratchets (including Proto) I usually grab these Craftsman V's.   They are old friends that have excelled for years. Easy, smooth movement.  Did I mention they are fine tooth?  When other ratchets have failed due to not enough handle space to engage a new tooth or the bolt is too loose to allow another ratchet to catch.  I get my trusty Craftsman V and nine times out of ten it takes over just fine.  If the Craftsman V fails me (only twice that I can remember) I have a friction ratchet that has saved the day, but it is not as easy to use as other ratchets.  You have to switch the socket from each side of the head to change direction.

  4. Just get the 3/8 and use a reduced, the 3/8 Rachet Kit comes with a reducer I think.

I would guess that both the 3/8 & 1/4 are the exactly the same except for the drive.  Glasseyi probably just has a 1/4 that was assembled better than the 3/8.   I would follow Jimbo's advice and get the 3/8 and use a reducer for 1/4 stuff.  Myself I use the M12 3/8 all the time but when it comes to 1/4 stuff I usually just grab a regular 1/4 ratchet with a extension, loosen all with the ratchet real quick then spin the nuts/bolts off with the extension & socket like a screwdriver.

  5. I bought a Husky Silent Air Compressor for $99 last week maybe that triggered getting that coupon.  I used the $10 coupon to buy another Husky Air Compressor for $89.  I'm going to send the receipt in to see if I can get the 11% Menards matching rebate from HD.  This is the first time I ever got a coupon from HD.  I signed up to have receipts sent to my email about a year ago.  I asked the HD cashier if she has seen the coupon before and she said "yeah we get quite a lot of them".

  6. its a rebranded "california air" compressor.  i have one and its very quiet.

I wanted a California Air but they sold out quick.  When I heard about these Husky versions for only $99 I rushed out and picked one up last week within a hour of hearing about it.  I have been in three HD's since and each still have at least 2 Husky's a week later.   Funny how a name can make such a difference.

  7. The troubles of being American. Finally in the past few years better drive styles have taken off. I see more options at big box stores than ever. You still see a crap load of Phillips bits though

I agree.  I want to go with Robertson drive screws but have a large stash of Phillips.  When looking to start my Roberson stash I found almost all Phillips stuff.  Had to search to find Robertson screws then when I did find them they where at least twice the cost.

For now I have given up my quest for Robertson stuff as being impractical and focused on finding quality Phillips bits and screwdrivers.

  8. Bought the Kobalt bit. It's not impact rated but this is a really nice bit, my initial impression of it in-store was pretty high...looked to be machined well, it is. Best fitment of any Chinese bit I've tried, closest comparison is the Dewalt Maxfit bits. No comment to durability yet but the metal sure seems more dense than the other Chinese bits. We'll see...

I have been impressed with the Kobalt's.

  9. I don't know about the Vessel Impacta striking cap screwdrivers.  My first thought is a gimmick tool like many of the Craftsman gimmick tools I bought over the years.  I have (somewhere) a impact tool that works by hitting with a hammer.  It is quite a bit beefier than those screwdrivers and it only loosened screws or bolts only about 15% of the time.  The spring in the screwdriver may cause you to loose any feel of how tight you have tightened a screw.  The reviews on Amazon are good though.

  10. Wera, Wiha and Felo have lines that have the hex bolster and striking cap. I think the only ones with the 1/4" indent are the yellow handled Weras. This set: http://www.amazon.com/Wera-Chiseldriver-Screwdriver-Set-5018283002/dp/B00A2ARZCY

...but I don't think it's guaranteed that those will always have it, on Wera's website they do NOT have that feature listed in the set's description.

    .

I'm guessing that indent was on the older versions.  I'm hoping the screwdriver I ordered was from old stock and has that indent.

The Felo website of the 550 series shows what is possibly a indent in the cutaway view.  Like Wera Felo makes no mention of the indent.  Do you have a 550 series?

  11. Correct, impact bits have the flex in them to keep them from shattering, you still can strip,

This shows some wear, I got a new impact and striped the crap out of some construction screws. The bit held up pretty well.

That bit is tempting.  Now that I'm getting 30 of the regular Wiha bits I'll wait to see they hold up and watch for a deal on the Terminators.  There are still other HD's around I still might get lucky and find the deal you got.

    8-)

  12. That's the idea behind impact bits, basically if they don't flex they break...kind of a wet noodle versus a dry noodle thing.

I have both Wera and Wiha bits, they're EXTREMELY comparable. I think when it comes to screwdrivers the handle and pricing is going to be the deciding factor. I REALLY like the laser tip, also you'll find that the handle isn't as massive as it looks in pictures. I hate to throw another screwdriver/bits into the mix but I also really like Felo, made in Germany and very similar quality. I LOVE the Felo screwdriver handle, it's a little smaller than Wera but it has better grip and more cushioned...but man, I wish they had the laser tips.

What I like about the Wera Kraftform Plus screwdrivers is the hex part at the bottom of the handle where you can use a wrench for extra torque and the solid steel thru the handle.  Some of the Kraftform Plus screwdrivers also have a 1/4" indent at the end of the handle where a 1/4" socket wrench can be used.  I hope the screwdriver I ordered has that 1/4" indent.

I would like to get the straight slot version to have the ability to hit the end with a hammer on rare occasions.  But I have used round shaft screwdrivers for years and with a straight slot screwdriver I use one hand on the shaft to keep the screwdriver centered the hex shaft would drive me nuts.

  13. Jimbo,

I have debating between Wera & Wiha screwdrivers for some time and for some reason did not even think of these companies making bits.  When I read about your Wiha Terminator bits in this thread it finally registered with me that these would probably be better bits than I would find in local B&M stores (I'm not as lucky as you) so I took a look on Ebay.   I have many different bits but go through Phillips #2 the most, so when I found this set of 30 Phillips #2 Wiha bits I jumped on it.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/SALE-Wiha-72522-Phillips-2-Contractor-Insert-Bit-30-Piece-Bulk-Pack-/151918912727?hash=item235f12a4d7:g:gOsAAOSwo3pWcjF4

While searching for the bits I came across this Wera screwdriver and grabbed it too.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Demo-Screwdriver-Phillips-x23-2x4-Hx-wth-Hx-05017010002-/291602529951?hash=item43e4dd7e9f:g:430AAOSw9mFWMuli

I was choking on the price of the Wera Kraftform Plus set but this Phillips #2 is what I use the most.

I'm going to see how the Wiha bits I got work out.  If they don't hold up I will probably get some Wiha Terminator bits like these which I think is the phillips #2 that you have.   Keep us posted on how those terminators work out.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wiha-76802-2-x-29mm-Phillips-Terminator-Impact-Bit-2-Pack-/331713472956?hash=item4d3ba9e9bc:g:NBIAAOSwlV9WT7CZ

Don't Impact bits flex some to absorb some of the impact and the regular bits have no flex?
