  1. Metabo BS18 LT BL or Bosch DDS183 (tool only)? Just consider the drill, not the platform or warranty. Both the same price (bare tool). Both 60Nm. Both 1.5Kg (with compact battery). Both brushless. Bosch pros - better grip?, Anti kickback, slightly more compact Metabo pros - separate ring to switch to/from clutch mode, made in Germany, quick chuck version available, 2100rpm (vs 1900)
  2. Of all the brands it looks like Metabo might have the biggest range of cordless drills. 18V subcompacts, compacts, full size, tapper, 3 speed, sds, 36V sds...with some of these offered in both brushed and brushless, quick and non-quick, hammer and non-hammer etc. Which drills do you own? I have just one so far: BS 18 Quick subcompact
  3. That's quite good, it's $213 USD just for the bare tool here! ($279 AUD).
  4. This looks to be out in Australia (I've placed an order). Are we the first to get it?
  5. It does sound like yet another Milwaukee-issue-post but surprisingly the problems are with Makita (18V sub) and Dewalt (DCD796). I also returned a DCD791 because of bad run out, which was disappointing because it's such a great drill. Also surprising is the recent purchase of a cheap rebranded Dewalt that renewed my brushed-love. Perhaps I'm just having a bad run with brushless or maybe they need a few more years to mature their manufacturing. 50% of my brushless tools have problems, none of the brushed do.
  6. Except the Makita 18V brushed planer? Ahh plasma TV's, also a fan of those. Sad to see them go.
  7. I'm starting to prefer brushed drills now. I have 2 brushless and I've had nothing but trouble with them. A jumpy trigger, motor brake not working when releasing the trigger, and motor brake not working when loosening the chuck to release a bit. Small issues, but seriously, why any issues? There shouldn't be any. I own 2 brushed (previously 3) and not a single issue with any. I know I can pick one up, and it will work like it should. Reliable! Plus, for some reason every brushed drill has perfectly straight/true chucks, and all of the brushless have some runout/wobble ( I had to return one that had 1mm runout!). Perhaps they are skimping on quality to bring the costs of using brushless down. I know this is anecdotal, but this is really starting to feel like a trend.
  8. Yes perfectly. I wrote a mini review in another thread. I'm really liking this drill.
  9. The drill has arrived. Some observations so far: - Works perfectly fine with Dewalt batteries - Slightly lighter weight than the Dewalt compact drills (DCD791/796). EDIT: it's actually slightly heavier - Weight is slightly balanced towards the chuck with a compact 2.0ah - Forward/reverse switch too small and tucked too far under the curve of the shell (very hard to press) - Chuck is decent - Fairly quiet - Smooth (for brushed) - Grip is comfortable (thinner than Dewalt but not quite as comfortable) - Build quality is good with very good rubber overmold - Feels slightly weaker than Dewalt brushless compacts but is supposed to have 60Nm torque - Only 5 clutch settings! This is strange - No belt clip - Battery fits without rattle Normal asking prices from Sidchrome and Facom are absolutely ridiculous for this drill. Entirely not worth that. But, for only $59 AUD (~$45 USD) delivered, this is a bargain. A great brushed beat-up drill to have spare. Check out Ebay (AUS) if any Aussie's want one, there's still 4 left with the seller I bought from.

    Dewalt chain saws

What deedub said. I have a petrol Makita with tool free tensioning. It's great. Just keep turning anticlockwise to take the housing and bar off.
  11. The other brands should sue Milwaukee when they eventually copy dual battery, dual voltage, or bigger cells.
  12. The 12V rotary tool. I'm hoping to get one soon and I've read a lot of good things about it.

    XFD11 problem

I think something is definitely wrong with this drill. I used it this morning and the electronic brake just stopped working. I pulled the battery off and put it back on and the brake was working again. Such a shame, I love this drill, but I hate using it now

    XFD11 problem

I have the 18V subcompact XFD11 drill and when the trigger sits right at the point where it will step up or down in speed it will jump up and down between the speeds rapidly, even if you hold the trigger stable. I'm not 100% certain it has always been like this so I wanted to check with other owners if this is normal for this drill. I don't remember it happening when I first got it but maybe I didn't really use the trigger this way to notice it. Other brushless tools I have don't do this, it's just a clear step up or down in speed when you hit a certain point (no jumping).
  15. $59 AUD is a really good deal so I've ended up ordering one. It will be the drill that I lend to people. The 1.5ah batteries are also on Ebay but the prices are too close to genuine Dewalt.
  16. ...and the Facom version, which definitely shows Dewalt compatibility.
  17. This might only be of interest to Aussie's but I just came across this Sidchrome drill on clearance on Ebay for only $59 AUD (drill only). I can't find much info about it, but it looks to be a rebranded Dewalt, very similar to the DCD780 but with a metal chuck like the DCD791. It almost looks like Dewalt and Milwaukee got together and had a drill baby. Batteries and charger look to be identical to Dewalt.
  18. Definitely Metabo and Bosch, not so sure about Festool but I will include them in the answer.
  19. Makita 18V. I'm not sure I can name all of them but here goes: - Full sized recip - One hand recip (brushed) with dual trigger - Subcompact recip - Circular saw 6.5inch - Rear handle circular saw - Metal cutting saw - Band saw???do they have one - Barrell grip jigsaw - D handle jigsaw EDIT: Total of 9 saws in 18V
  20. What a great tape measure. Based on this one I think I'll order the 5.5m/25mm version.
  21. I wish I didn't just go ahead buy 3 of the 2.0ah! They have been on sale for a few months now. I should have seen this as a sign that something new is coming out. Although who knows when AUS will get these. I love Dewalt tools but why do their batteries look like something off my nephew's toy drill? Dewalt styling is also kind of random. Compare the new 6.0ah to this one and the Flexvolts. Every battery looks different. As long as they are tough it doesn't matter. Great news. I hope the others follow with new compacts soon.

    Utility knife

I have one made by Hart. It's aluminium so the weight is very light (~200g) The handle holds spare blades and can also turn a 1/4 inch hex bit. Blade change is easy, just press the black button at the front and pull the old blade out, put a new one in. For people in Aus, you can get these at Bunnings for $15 AUD.
  23. Here's a video I found after trawling through 40 odd pages of search results https://www.pictaram.org/post/BYXptp9j-xs
