Swaglosrevival
Hey guys.It might be a stupid question, but I'm new to Furniture making and want to build a bookshelf out of Mdf using pocket screws. I want to use titebond 2 to glue the joint before screwing it, but I've never glued Mdf. Can I use normal wood glue on Mdf or should I use something else? comp56
if your using a kreg pocket screw set up ya probably don't need to glue it however if you still want to I suggest gorilla wood glue.....MDF usually don't like glue because it is very porous but you should be ok for a book shelf.......apply a very thin coat on both sides of connection and let sit 10 or so minutes then apply again just before you screw it tight wipe off any extra....
regopit
Mark sure that you use screws made for MDF. Dry wall screws could pull out under the weight of the books.

Be careful when putting the pocket screws in mdf and do not over tighten.
chadlanthier
Yeah those pocket screws will pull through anything. I used some on 2x6 pt, and over tightened. It ripped right through the wood.

RickyMcGrath
Ok but doesn't gorilla glue foam up? I guess if I clamp it up tight. The regular gorilla glue foams up? The key to it is to NOT wipe it immediately. Let it foam out and AFTER its dry, snap the foam off or trim it with the appropriate tool.
