dasjambo Posted August 15, 2011 Report Share Posted August 15, 2011 Hey there everyone, I've got an amateur question. I locked my bike with a u-lock, and now can't find the key. I've been searching for it for days, and am finally giving up. So now I need to drill through the lock. I have a DeWalt drill with black oxide drill bits--can I just take the drill to the key hole, or would that damage the bit since its metal on metal? Eric - TIA Posted August 17, 2011 Report Share Posted August 17, 2011 I don't think that will work. My guess is if you drill into the lock, it will not release the lock mechanism. Do you have a hack saw? I would try that. Thoose locks are usually made from a high grade tough material and will eat the drill bit. A bi-metal blade in a reciprocating saw would work or a hacksaw.
