I think the only impact to stand a chance against the Makita would be the upcoming fuel 2.0
No point in testing the ' old' fuel imo
I think Gen1 FUEL and Makita's previous 3 speed, brushless unit are very comparable. WIll be interesting to see if Gen 2 FUEL keeps up with Makita's tiny demon.

I'm confused now. That unit is 6 (peak) HP according to Rigid. But at 11A x 120V it is roughly 1300 Watts. Taking into account efficiency losses in the motor etc, 1 HP is roughly 8.9A.
1 HP is ~ 745W....

The EGO is a 2ah 56v battery and the DeWalt has a 5ah 20v.
I also think there is some runtime gains with being able to easily feather the trigger on the DeWalt. With the EGO you end up running it at one speed and hitting the turbo button for a boost.
Oh yeah fair enough. I suppose the 4Ah battery would be a different kettle of fish (and different pricepoint too).

5HP shop-vac? Even 2.5HP is pretty powerful for a shop-vac. 5HP would have to be 3-Phase right?
-
My big question though is runtime. 56V EGO should have roughly 2.8 higher runtime than the dewalt, both using the same Ah battery.
If that extra weight and loss of comfort takes you from 5 minute run time on high to 14 mins, lots of people would take it.

Wish I could help, but I just purchased the DCF885, which is the brushed version.
The bit holder / chuck of the dcf886 is identical to the dcf885.

I reckon FEIN & Metabo (both German) are the leaders in grinders.
-
I am glad they they went with 4 LEDs.
-
No chance. They've somehow managed to make even the LED indicator batteries look ... homebrand.

Many batteries are rated to get the same overall life whether you put them through a half cycle or full cycle (e.g. rated at 4000 half cycles or 2000 full cycles).
The main thing is not to leave them dead empty for long.

Are you on a job site every day actually using the tools? Dont get me wrong i see the benifits of "some" cordless tools.. example if im doing a few cuts or framing a fence or a small job then yes il pull out the makita brushless cordless circ saw but if im framing up a house like i do everyday for work im not pulling out cordless nothing maybe to cut some roof vents or to make some roof cuts a cordless will work but thats it.

I'm not, and I understand you still need cords for the way you work currently. But you're missing my point. My point was that battery operated tools are just continuing to grow and evolve.
15 years ago, a cordless drill wouldn't cut it for 95% of contractors working all day with a drill. now it would cater for 95%.
5 Years ago, maybe 5-10% of contractors would have found a cordless circular, grinder or recip saw to be a significant help to their trade. Now I bet that figure is more like 50%.
10 years from now, I suspect that cordless tools will account for 90% of all contractor hand-held/portable power tool usage. It may not satisfy your needs just yet, but others use the tool differently/less than you. And implying that the manufacturer doesn't understand the market, or any particular tool will never be cordless just seems short-sighted to me.

People said the same thing about cordless angle grinders. and circular saws. and reciprocating saws. and multi-tools. and planers. and garden tools.
And yet the tech keeps growing, and the market for it grows with it....

Nice job Dwain. I wish my new Blsch came with a belt clip let alone a bit holder but....lice stuff though!
i took my belt hook off to put the magnet on. i don't use them.
-
i miss having a magnet since selling my dewalts, though they have on-board 1/4" bit storage. The Bosch only has one slot, the Milwaukee has two slots, but you really need a magnet to store regular drill bits.

Thanks Moxy. I'll re-upload when I get home tonight. Probably need to find a way to upload it indefinately.

there's another brushless that keeps the old power but doubles extends the runtime
Brushless motors don't usually double the runtime, but yes they certainly extend it.

In 2009 Makita has that brushless technology trickle down to the first ever brushless power tool available for contractors in the form of an pact driver.
Panasonic beat the to it actually (~2006) - http://hardwarejournal.com.au/articlearchive/articleid2203/

Thanks man. Maybe i should do a quick video of my shed one day, explaining what/why I own and stuff. Would be fun.

The 12V Max tools are pretty powerful (check out Javier's review, where the drill beats all brushed competition) and super comfy. But don't expect it to get bigger, it is as it will be.

i think it all depends on how well the app is designed. if you can whip out your phone for 30 seconds and then have totally different tool to use as a result, that's pretty cool. If the app isn't intuitive and beautiful, fail.

wow, amazing deal!

You've changed man...

Thanks DarynH, beat me to it! I just switched over to Milwaukee, in large part so I could have that saw
