Hi All,
This weekend I'm going to test and review some BL Milwaukee & Dewalt 18V tools: SDS Rotary Hammer, HT Wrench and Wrench.
Is there anything in particular you'd like to hear about? Apart from trying to bust some big nuts (off old steam engines!!!), and drill some 16mm holes, I suspect they'll be pretty simple reviews...
Any thoughts?

^^^ Might be time to change your 'Favourite Power Tool' in your profile then?

nice work. love it.

Not much that i cut is thicker than 2", which the 6-1/2" can cut. You wouldn't cut 3' treated pine sleepers with a cordless much I'd think...
-
My first purchase was an Ozito (junk) cordless drill, about 10 years ago.
But my dad gave me a few electric tools (grinder, drill, ??) when i turned 18.
-
I'm not buying into all this cheaper blade stuff. How often do you people go through circ blades? I say buy the tool that suits you best.
I like a left-side blade, and prefer a lighter and smaller unit to lug around. Since it has the same power, the 6-1/2" is (and was) the obvious choice for me.

The Gen2 drill/impact is out, but they Gen1 drill is much older than the FUEL saws. I'd say it will be a while before they announce any saw updates.
-
did anyone else see CopTools grinder comparison. The Metabo wiped the floor with FUEL and Makita BL for runtime...
-
Just don't go full speed and stop once the bit is held, then fully tighten by hand.
-
never happened to me. i drove crap loads of 100mm batten screws into my treated pine retaining wall, with not a blip.
-
how about NOT killing yourselves!
That's freaking dangerous....
-
Glad the 18x2 is also BL.

Crazy to think its only 6'x4'
Metres, not feet! 5.9m x 3.7m to be precise.

Milwaukee does this too with the XC batteries over the 2.0. you only get the full power from the XC batteries. Than again I'm thinking they throttled the 2.0 batteries so they last longer is all. I may be wrong just a guess.
Say rather that they limit the maximum current draw to prevent the cells inside from overheating. A 4Ah battery will only have to pull half the current from each individual cell compared to a 2Ah, to deliver the same power.
-
How can a bigger battery give you more power/torque... More runtime I can understand ..
An 18V slim battery has 5 cells inside. These cells are usually 3.6V and have a certain current (amperage) rating, say 20A. The battery pack becomes 18V by wiring them in series, 3.6V x 5 = 18V. The pack is thus 18V @ 20A.
A fat battery has two of these inside it, 2 rows of 5 cells, but the rows are wired in parallel. Thus you still have 18V, but you double the capacity (Ah) and you also increase (double?) the current that you can pull from the battery set, e.g. 40A.
Thus, a tool (if electronically configured) can pull different current (and thus power) from different batteries. The new 9Ah Milwaukee batteries should be able to pull more current again, because they will have 3 rows of cells in parallel.

that is, until you hurt yourself with it
I met a fella recently who broke his wrist with the Makita...

That is thanks in part to the asshole who decided it isn't important to actually pay attention while driving and decided to turn left through my lane while i was out for a Sunday ride a few weeks ago.. I did everything i could but the crash was unavoidable.. cops and insurance place all the blame on him which is a good thing but i'm still the one left with a totaled bike, aches throughout my whole body, several messed up joints and a pretty good size gouge in the side of my knee..
That sucks man. Someone needs to invent a 12V siren or something than warns drivers of proximity to riders/peds...
-
We should be able to film it next week, then I'll get it up on youtube pretty much straight away (no editing required).

Pretty cool. I wonder if they will stagger the release at all or release then at realitively the same time..
As far as specs I was really just digging for any info you might have had. SPM. Stroke length. Features like orbit settings, anti vibe. Rafter hook . led . movable shoe.... That kind of stuff.
Yeah true. but much like circ saws and grinders, what we really want to know if how much power it has. How much it bogs down under a hard load. The manufacturers don't tell us this, particularly with cordless tools.
-
No i don't know any specs yet (what specs are there on a recip apart from SPM? which is quite useless).
Yes Makita are releasing a BL 18V and a 2x18V (not sure if it is brushless).
-
yeah I can't wait.

Thanks NER

Thanks Nic. As one is a high-torque heavy duty model, and the other a compact, this won't be doable. It's not a comparison, I'm doing three seperate reviews.
